MotoGP - 'Where are they now?'
The following have all raced in either MotoGP/250cc/125cc since 1995 (when I started following the championships) but have subsequently, it would seem, disappeared from the international scene.
Does anyone know where any of them are now? (I am just curious) Perhaps some have retired, some are racing in other (such as national series) and some have just faded away because they have been unable to find a ride anywhere. Luca Boscoscuro (250cc until not so long ago) Ivan Goi (125cc until not so long ago) Tomomi Manako (raced 250s in 1999, race winner in 125s prior to then) Masaki Tokudome (same as Manako) Kazuto Sakata (125cc W/C 1994, 1998) Takeshi Tsujimura (raced 250cc in the mid-late 1990s) Noriyasu Numata (raced for Suzuki in 250cc) Frederic Petit (125cc, 1990s) Yoshiaki Kato (125cc, 1990s. Any relation to Daijiro??) Manfred 'Tex' Geissler (125cc, 1990s) Peter Öttl (won the 125cc Mugello GP in 1996) Akira Saito (125cc, mid-1990s) Patrick van den Goorbergh (brother of Jurgen) Hideyuki Nakajoh (125cc, mid-1990s and subsequent 125cc wildcard) I think races in the Japanese national 125cc championship. Feel free to add to this list (pre-1995 riders as well) |

I think a lot of the Japanese names you mentioned are back racing in Japanese national championships, or have retired after returning to those championships.

Patrick has been Jurgen's right-hand man since he stopped racing, taking care of Jurgen's tyre and suspension setup on the Molenaar 500 V-twin, the KR3 and the Kanemoto NSR500. And now of course for Jurgen in Supersnail (oops, Supersports).

Wasn't Kocinski involved in testing the Yamaha M1 4-stroke last year? (alongside Biaggi and Checa)

John Kocinski is now retired from motorsports and he is enjoying of a relaxed lifestyle in his Californian home.
John had surgery to re-build his little finger. At this moment, John is completely recovered in his home and really satisfied with the result |

Sakata was great in 125cc. Extremely quick but somewhat prone to errors, specially in his firts years in FIM races. He was one of my favourite to watch. Retired with plenty of trophies.
Kocinsky, one of the greats of 500cc and I think the most under achieved of them. Maybe he was not mentally as solid as required at that level, but anyway a big great rider IMHO. |

Yeah, once Porto left that team and Petronas pulled the cash, Yuzy was a goner. I'll look it up and see what I can find.

Noriyasu Numata has surfaced as one of four wildcards entered for the forthcoming WSBK races at Sugo (on a Ducati interestingly).
(for the record the other three wildcards are Hitoyasu Izutsu - indeed on a Honda, Atsushi Watanabe on a Suzuki and Kenichiro Nakamura also on a Honda) |
