repairing paintwork
following on from my post in the gravel trap about my poor little golf losing repeated fights in the car park here with a white van (and the accompanying caveman), i'm now wanting to repair what he's done to my baby.
first scratches are across the wheel arch, right the way through the paintwork and to the metal, the second is a surface inch long one on the door panel, and the third is an unremovable black mark on the remaining door trim. i'm not going to touch any of them, rather take it down to the vw garage and get a quote for repairs. can't take it anywhere else since it's that metallic purple that only vw were camp enough to use. my questions are - how much would i (sorry, my neighbour with any luck and cooperation) be looking at paying to get damage like that repaired? have you had to have damage such as that repaired? does it look as good as new or just like it's had a bout of excema? |

Find a decent spray painter/panel beater. Insurance companies should have a list of approved repairers. They can match any color on any vehicle and you shouldnt be able to see the repair.
As for the cost, I have no idea. My Uncle has been spraying cars for as long as I remember and the cost to me has been bugger all (the last on cost me a slab of beer). |

Well coln72 why don't you do the decent thing and ask your uncle if he will spray Bella's car for a slab of beer. We should all try and help each other of this forum.

One thing you can be sure of - it's going to be expensive - don't be surprised at around £100/panel! No need to go to a VW dealer, though - as coln72 says, any body shop can match the colour; it's quite likely, in any case, that a dealer will not use somebody else for body work.

i'll wait till it gets a service (around august some time), and see if they can give me a quote. i can gurantee it'd be a bit cheaper than shipping the damn thing over to oz though
i can't wait to see what this going to do to my car next... the worst bit about having a car covered in scratches is people feel justified in calling your driving because it looks like you can't park. wish i could put a sign on it pointing out that it was in fact a man that did the damage. |
