2003 Bentley Le Mans painting / print!
Using reference info from the recent Le Mans test days and a bit of artistic licence, I have painted this scene of Guy Smith leading the sister Bentley, Champion Audi and Lammers Dome at Le Mans. It is entitled
"BRITISH PRIDE" The painting has been commissioned by Guy and his manager Robert Synge and has been printed as an official Guy Smith signed Limited Edition. It has been painted in advance as the prints will be available at the forthcoming 24 hour race and elsewhere. I can supply details if interested. The original is 24 x 18ins and I have used artistic licence to show the usual crowded scene opposite the pits. Here's hoping for a nice sunny weekend and a Bentley victory! Any comments appreciated as usual. Regards Andrew. |

Andrew, how long does it take you to complete an image like this?

Hi MolsonBoy,
This particular one at 24 x18ins took around 60 hours I think. But like most artists, its not a matter of working 9 to 5! I sometimes do 12-14 hours on a picture, sometimes only 1 or 2 hours and work on something else for a while. Like a good book, you can get totally into it and then realise it is 2am! Best to paint when you are inspired I suppose. I find It is better to have a couple of pictures on the go at once as when you come back to the other painting, you see it with a 'fresh' eye and any doubts you have about a particular area stand out. |

Thanks Andrew. I understand what you are saying. Usually when I do something digitally I go at then leave it alone for a while. I found that if I make a wallpaper image for my computer, then put it on my computer at work I will notice thing that just don't seem to be right.
It is kind of funny that I tend to be more creative when I am sick. I guess the thinking side of my brain doesn't work too well and the artistic side has to jump in there to get things done. This usually happens at 2 in the morning when I can't sleep. Rob Last edited by MolsonBoy; 3 Jun 2003 at 20:08. |

Paul, I've seen that one before.
However if I was to do it, I think I would place the main car slightly lower on the canvas away from the cars in the background and would turn the image of the car slightly - a few degrees anti clockwise. Still very nice though as it is, like most of Bruere's work. What you need now is a modern Bentley to go with it! |

I probably do it's convincing my good lady that these new fangled cars can be as beautiful as the old ones

What a great painting. Andrew can you supply details of where it can be bought and how much. I wont want to buy at LeMans as it will be crushed in the car!

If anyone is interested in seeing the print close up and you are going to Le Mans, I've just heard that Grand Prix Legends will have them on their trade stands.

Just putting this one back to the top. After qualifying, the scene could be like the end of lap 1!

Well you got that one right! What's your prediction for me at Spa in September? You can paint it afterwards though.
Lovely pic by the way and well done to Guy. |

I just recived my copy earlier in the week. Have got to say Andrew it is a fantastic painting, I got quite a few Le Mans paintings but urs is defintly among the best of my collection. Nice one, PS do u plan on ever doing a painting for the Spa 24hrs? (or do u know anyone who is or has done one?). Thanks.

Thanks Saleen!
Not planning a Spa one at the moment but you never know! There are plenty around of the old days at Spa - 917s etc. Glad you like the print. |
