Somehow I doubt it. I can see your point of view and agree with you completely.

Suzy should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
There used to be a pop festival at Silverstone organised by my local radio station called "Party in the Pits". It was only staged twice. Basically, it was deemed too expensive - £10 entry whihc.

I never went but the general idea was that there was a stage for teenybopper "stars" to perform on - whilst races (I believe Formula Palmer Audi was the other attraction) went on in the background.

Latest from BBC Online after this morning's meeting between FOM and BRDC...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/moto...ne/3090151.stm

Doesn't look great. Unfortunately, everything is now being played out in the full glare of the media, with all the misinterpretation and additional pressure that brings.

I believe a deal will be thrashed out, and I hope it encompasses an FOM guarantee to 2015 - as they've already offered, but perhaps without some of the strings.

Glossary, if you need it :
FOM = Formula One Management = Bernie.
BRDC = British Racing Drivers Club = owners of Silverstone.
Brands Hatch Circuits Ltd = new name (I think) for Octagon = owners of FOM rights to stage the British GP, and lease Silverstone for that purpose.

It's all becoming clear now. This is purely and simply about the new pit complex that Bernie wants built. One one hand, Bernie and Max are making veiled threats about taking the GP elsewhere, on the other hand they bend over backwards to try and ensure that it stays at Silverstone for the next 12 years. What's the betting that any new buildings wouls have a set of "executive office suites" set aside for FOM use only?

Exactly Cynic. All Bernie's complaints don't relate to the spectators - they relate to him and his cronies. Why else did he turn around and say that the access roads and more toilets should have waited because a new complex for hospitality was more important?

Anyway, all that will change when I'm FIA President. Bernie will be sent into orbit - with the imprint of my boot on his backside!

What a great investment it will have been in road infrastructure if Silverstone closes.

You'll be able to drive to the middle of no-where in Northamptonshire really easily.

How nice!

There is a Little Chef nearby though - so we could all appreciate the multi-£Millions spent by going up for an all-day breakfast, once in a while.

In all fairness Hugh, the A43 did need to be made into a dual-carriageway. It was given the go-ahead in 1987 (at the same time as the road behind me - the A40 - was supposed to be dualled) but it kept getting delayed by various governments. Getting from the M40 to the M1 is so much easier now and it is a major route.

And Silverstone did need a better road infrastructure.

MrV - I stand corrected. If only I'd set the Apache on Bernie at the weekend - I could have guaranteed Silverstone's future at the drop of a (very overpriced) hat.

I don't think Silverstone will close. It's an adequate club racing circuit.A £40M pit complex needed once a year is not a reasonable investment.

Suzy, i wasn't disagreeing with you, i meant, before the roads were built, he was saying how important it was for Silverstone to get them sorted, now that Silverstone have complied and built a brilliant new road, Bernie says that there were more important things for Silverstone, thats what i meant by him playing with the BRDC.

As for the Apache......

What was this thread about? Oh yes I remember

There has been a bit on Autosport for a day or so now, it's basically Max saying that there is a good enough offer ready to be signed, but the BRDC aren't. More to it than just that I'd have thought, but here's a flavour:

Quote:
Max via autosport.com
What's been put to the BRDC is that they take a great deal less rent and do not monopolise facilities at the circuit. In return for that, Bernie and Octagon [now Brands Hatch Circuits] would finance the building and all the work.
Basically reduce what the BRDC get out of the GP (I think)
Quote:
More Max via autosport.com
So is there anything holding the thing up? Everyone seems to be agreeing. This is a blinding deal from their [the BRDC's] point of view. It's open and shut. No rational person could argue against it.
For the full story go to http://www.autosport.com/newsitem.asp?id=23949&s=5

No wonder the BRDC are holding out and not signing. Basically, if i'm correct, the BRDC are still paying for it (via Bernie). If i was them, and i had to pay for it, i'd want the full rent then pay for it out of that.
