Focus to remain basis for Ford's WRC Challenge

From www.worldrallynews.com

Ford has decided to base its next World Rally Car on the new Focus rather than the Fiesta.

Marketing reasons not withstanding Ford are banking on a change in the rules for WRC dimensions which will see cars based on larger models. Work is due to start this Autumn with a development period that will see the car introduced to the World Championship in 2005.

This comes a few day's after Mitsubishi's announcement that it will be returning to the WRC with the Lancer rather than the smaller Colt model.

(So Ford are planning to be in the WRC for 2005, even if the driver regs / event numbers end up forcing them out next year.)
