Do Pro Photographers Have Bad Days?
Do any of you pros out there ever have days where it would've been simpler to stay in bed because the fruits of your labours turn out rubbish?

There are definately worse days than others. But usually I shoot enough to have at least a few keepers from an event or race.
But yes, there are days where a very high percentage are good shots and others where it goes the other way. |

I had a bad day Snetterton for the BTCC last weekend. It was just too hot to work properly. By the time I went out for the second race I had stopped really paying attention to what was in the viewfinder - just working on autopilot hoping it would all end soon
Add to that the fact that Snetterton only really has one decent corner for photos and the security guy was giving me grief while I was trying to shoot the pitstops. The net result being that I just couldn't wait to get away from the place. Check out the shots at http://tsuphoto.com/motorsport Jason. |

I gotta get me more grid girl shots trouble is I always feel very self concious when I do it (plus the pain of my wife hitting me with kitchen utensils is a big deterrent)

hehe
I used to be the same but most of them are professional models and are well used to posing for the cameras and they're being paid to be seen [and photographed]. These days I don't care - maybe I'm getting too old J |

I'm a very long way away from a pro, but I've had bad days, bad weekends, even. 2002 Le Mans was a good example - most of my shots were very disappointing. In fact, my shots in the late 80's/early 90s were much better than now, but, then again, I don't have the advantage of being able to get the other side of that damned debris fencing.

i usually shoot at football or rugby most weekends...and its definitely a case of the better the match the better the shots. when the tackles are flying in or the atmosphere is good...you can feel your mind going up a gear.
how then i can explain le mans 1999? one of the best races for years...and one half decent picture in the set. at least i got this car before it took off though! |

KDR, that shot is sweet
I am not a proffesional, but i do teach photography and i had a bad day that almost cost me a camera. Shooting winter pictures of a river, slipped on ice, camera up, camera down, through ice on river,me, on the ground concussion. thank god i use my old mostly mechanical A-1 which first of all barely leaked and second, was repaired by canon for about $200 |

That's a lovely shot kdr - from a lovely spot too. I've got quite a few pics taken from roughly the same place over the years with the trees and (sometimes) the wheel in the background. It also illustrates the additional effect you can get by shooting portrait instead of the seemingly obligatory landscape. Using the rule of thirds really works on shots like these.

shame its no more.. i had a good shoot in 1998, and thought i knew it all in 99. what the picture desk manager always told me...don't run - walk...i should have listened! |
