Mo Nunn turns over in series Champ Car in 2004
The Indianapolis Star reports that Brazilian cigarette brand Hollywood plans to cut its sponsorship next year because IRL races are shown only on cable in Brazil. Perhaps that is behind Mo Nunn's interest in returning to CART, whose races are shown on Brazilian network TV?

Intersting, but of course Mo also gets significant backing from Toyota for Takagi, and that may offset the Hollywood money. Seems strange that mainstream Brazillian TV doesn't cover the IRL considering that 3 of the championship Top 4 are Brazillian, but there you go.
A Hollywood entry in CART alongside a Pioneer/Toyota one in IRL seems posisble, but Giaffone has no experiecne of road racing at a high level, and Hollywood would want a Brazillian driver. Unlike the other defectors, Mo was publically supportive of CART, and would eb welcome there. |

How long is Giaffone's contract? Does it go through 2004?

Apart from rumours, where has Mo Nunn shown interest in returning to CART. Didn't he say a few months back he wouldn't be there next year....

I think that , to Nunn, Toyota is way more important than Hollywood. They will more easily get rid of Giaffone, who, by the way, won only one race in a 3-tear IRL career, not that much indeed.

My point as to Giaffone's lack fo experience (and, yes, I don't count latter-period IndyLights as a particaulrly high level) was tat he wouldn't be right for a one-car team, where everyone's learning or re-learning CART, especially as a Mo Nunn ride would eb a coveted one in CART.
I wouldn't belittle Giaffone's IRL career too much, he's only had 2 1/2 years behind the wheel, one of them in a midfield team that no longer exists, and has had to face the influx of top teams. Ultiamtely, until Hornish, he was hte only driver with no CART background to be hired by a defecting team, which ahs to be worth something. |
