Piquet Jr and Doornbos to test Arden F3000 car

Don't know of this is already mentioned on this forum but according to a press release of Robert Doornbos, he and Nelson Piquet Jr will test a F3000 car of Team Arden.

Quote:
A full busy Robert Doornbos confirms rumours that said he is going to test with Team Arden at Jerez, next 5 and 6 November. Dutch, regular F3 Euro Series driver, went to England to the FIA F3000 Champion team Arden to prepare his seat looking forward the two day test, where Robert will take the wheel of the Lola B02/50-Zytek (460hp) for his first time. Also Piquet Junior is going to test with team Arden at Jerez.

So too will James Rossiter and Mathias Lauda.

I would have thought Nelshino would have wanted to stay in F3 for another year to get the experince. I've heard his dad was pushing ahead for 2004 with the team again but driving for Arden would certainly help his career along more than staying in british F3 another season.

Winning the 2004 British F3 crown will mean a lot more than winning the 2004 F3000 title.

I think its been mentioned elsewhere, but Piquet is doing laps in a F3000 to get used to higher speeds before he does his F1 test.

They have no intention of racing F3000, and Piquet Snr has publicly attacked F3000 many times.

Why would a team buy expensive cars/parts for a championship which is maybe dead in 2004?

Autobacs are spending a lott of money on the European circuits, they are already sponsoring 1 team in Formula Renault V6 and Kaneishi in DTM.

i think they will stop the renault v6 sponsorship, the ma-con boss is also in charge of autobacs european marketing... he thinks in 2005 everything will get better with F2

Isn't Autobacs a Japanese chain of car parts shops?
Personal I think F. Renault V6 has more future than F3000.

I wonder if they upped the power and/or gave it a better tire, if it could replace F3k. Its got mfg support at the very least.

Given that we now know that F2 is returning in 2005, and that teams which run in F3000 in 2004 will get automatic free entry into F2 in 2005, I think doing F3000 next season is a very good idea for a team, if not for a driver.

Some of the changes which will be made when F3000 becomes F2 are very interesting, and it will certainly bring a lot of interest to the series.

And as F2 will probably run with Renault-badged engines, the V6 championship will only run for another year.
