Manufactures?
All the rumors about new engine manufactures wanting in in 2005. Is that talk dead now?

I was wondering about that myself. I Know Pook was pushing for the engine change, but I'm not sure how the OWRS guys feel about it. I was thinking we needed commitments last summer to make it work for 2005 and I don't remember hearing about any. Maybe now that the series looks like it has a future again they will try to get something set up for 2006 and the Ford-Cosworth contract will be extended another year.

We will eventually see new manufacturers in the CCWS, but not for 2-3 years (2006-2007). I believe that OWRS is very happy with the Ford/Cosworth (which they should be), but once they get our series turned around and they head back to Europe is the same year we will probably see some new engine manufacturers join the series.

It's probably too early right now. Sounds like they are going to persue a merger with the IRL and if that does not pan out then they'll go their own way.

I think Manufacturers will come back but I believe that CC will stay with the turbos. PG has talked time and time again about bringing in new fans from the "tuner" crowd. What's usually one of the first things these guys add? you guessed it...turbos!

The first thing those guys add are stickers, horsepower losing fart cans, speakers. You're completely right that the word 'turbo' is a buzzword amoung these people and they are into them.
I think CART should be going after Honda again. 1. Honda already has the engine developed! 2. Honda left because CART jerked them around. Honda was number three in IRL last year. Honda and Toyota were not thrilled that the engine rules were bent to favour GM. In other words 'you are allowed to compete, but don't win.' 3. CART is under new management. 4. I think Honda's target market would be more interested in road/street racing than oval racing. 5. Honda was the best manufacturer CART had in terms of consistently producing competetive engines. Another possibility is BMW. Obviously they're dumping money into formula BMW. If they want to have the racing presence over here that they have in Europe, they're going to need to be in a top level series. Clearly CART more aptly fits what they try to do with their cars/brand image. Last edited by Snrub; 22 Dec 2003 at 04:08. |

Don't forget the blow-off valve with the little "maximum noise" horn on it.
By the way, blow-off valves and pop-off valves aren't the same thing. |

I may be wrong, but from what I can find, blow-off valves are installed between the turbo and the throttle butterflies, and are actuated by engine vacuum or throttle position to avoid excess turbo pressure and keep the turbo spooled up (and make lots of noise) when the throttle is closed suddenly. Pop-off valves are actuated by direct pressure on the disc, and are installed in the plenum by the sanctioning body in order to control cheating.

I always thought a pop-off valve was that thing on the top of a beer can!
