The popular rumour is that South Koreans will flock to a CART race like Mexicans. (fingers crossed) It will hopefully spread the travel costs to Austraila.
As for Hyundai, seriously what's wrong with them? They're quiet good cars for the money. You can't exactly say Ford builds quality automobiles. The best Ford branded vehicle is the Focus and it's the most recalled vehicle in history. (saving the 3rd generation RX-7 the destinction, but atleast it had the excuse of being able to roast $100k cars @ 1/3 the cost!) Nor can you claim that Ford had the better of Honda and Toyota in CART. |

From Cart-Racing.com: http://www.cart-racing.com/news/inde...e=news&ID=3371
Rumors emanating from South Africa suggest that sometime F1 Arrows straight-line tester (and occasional pilot of the bankrupt team's aborted AX3 triple-seater) Steven Watson is seeking local state backing to contest the Champ Car World Series - possibly with PK Racing alongside Mika Salo. Zimbabwe-born Watson, who last raced two years ago, is further linked to a venture planning to bring a Champ Car street race to the coastal city of Durban, where permission is being sought for a circuit. Plans released to the local media show an angular circuit fronted by the local casino, with the city's military base providing pits and paddock. The city, located on the Indian Ocean, controversially sanctioned a similar circuit for national (saloon and sports car) racing in 1988, but withdrew permission a year later after a raft of accidents which were blamed on an absence of run-off areas and lack of safety standards. Watson's father John (no relation to the 80s grand prix driver) co-promoted a non-championship F3000 race at Kyalami in the mid-nineties which, too, was dogged by controversy. Wow, so the South Africa rumor was pretty serious, huh? I'd say it would be 2005 at the earliest before there's an event there, and only on the conditions similar to the deal CART has with Surfer's for subsidised transport there and back. Otherwise, it just doesn't make sense.

These words should be waving "Red Flags" at this place as a possible venue.... The last thing OWRS would need would be an expensive overseas trip to a race that would possibly have a host (no pun intended) a series of problems..... |
