GT2 Historic Race 5
Anyone else having trouble with this one?
Keeping the Stingray on the track is bad enough over one lap, never mind 40! And, even with hard tyres, it's going through them every 12-13 laps! Could do with another attempt, but TV is 'otherwise indisposed' at the moment! Am in 52s and 53s at second sector. |

with the gt350 ive managed a few 50s but mainly mid 51s, i managed to squeeze 15 laps out of a set of tyres & they were super softs

I am doing betw 51 and 53 at S2 (depending on tyre wear) so we're all in the same boat.
I did 3 stops in the GT350 and 4 in the Camaro (both on super soft). I thought that the extra speed from the stickies would be worth more than the extra time from the stops (but didn't do any testing to check - hell, I only ran one race in each car!) |

I'm not allowed the super softs, but I don't think it'd make much difference for me! Using softs the tyres were nackered by lap 10! I reckon the smaller cars, like the 240Zs are really goiing to blow us (well me, anyway!) away in this one.
I have hit upon a faster strategy - I reckon using Mediums and stopping three times would be best for the Stingray, but I've run out of time as other people want to use the Telly (outrageous I know)! Rocket, that's pretty impressive going. How bad were the tyres by lap 15!? I did manage a couple of 51 sec sectors with the soft tyres. How quick were you in the Camaro, GTV. I notice that that has replaced your Stingray from Season 7. Think I might retire the old girl after this one! |

The Camaro was just a bit quicker than the Mustang over a race distance. It had quicker lap times in it, but had to do an extra stop for tyres and was harder to keep consistent than the Mustang (more spins in the Camaro).
Having said that, I got lazy with the Mustang and ran it in auto, but manually shifted the Camaro (I shift at 6, whereas the auto takes it to 7 and wastes lots of time). The Camaro is fundamentally a faster car though, I just haven't get sorted it to the degree of the Mustang yet. |

Did it again and didn't spin, but chose the wrong strategy (hence my frustration!) and went slower!! Fogelhund does seem a bit quiet, but I believe the times should have gone off by Monday. |

I have been quite, the other board that hosts this is down.. has been since Thursday. I have no way of contacting some of these people.
To boot, my disk wouldn't load Seattle, so I haven't even run yet. I finally managed to find a new copy of GT2, but believe me, it wasn't easy in our area. So, the deadline isn't really known yet. Once the other board is back up, it will be a few days after that date. So, keep on racing as long as you want for now. I did some testing yesterday, and the S2's for the Camaro were in the low 49's, though not real consistant. That is with SS tires, and will require 3 stops. Having said that, it isn't a huge penalty, as it only takes 15 seconds for a stop, so, I'm going to stick on the SS tires. So, stay tuned, I'll let you know when the actual deadline is. |

Thanks Fogelhund. My disc is on the verge of quitting too! I should be able to improve if it works, but I don't think that there is any chance of me getting the Stingray into the 49s! Are you expecting to be quicker in the 240Z?

Ok, disc did work and the strategy did too. 10 lap stints on medium tyres. Relatively (though not completely) clean run with no spins and I'v managed to knock around 40sec or so off my race time with little actual improvement on best lap time. Just more consistant. Reckon going quicker than that would either be a matter of knocking the odd second here or there off or doing something radical with the set-up.
Fogelhund, have you got a date yet? |

i wonder if the 1 hour mark can or will be broken for this race, it means an average 1min 30 sec lap for the entire race, a big ask but maybe possible

The very fact you asked that question suggests to me that, well, maybe I really am going to have to try something radical on the set-up front. Or maybe I should just go down the pub! |

In order to break the minute barrier, one would need to average in the 1:28 range most of the time, with a few slower laps due to traffic and tire wear. (Including pit stops). For anyone doing a one stopper, they might get away with average 1:29's while on the track.
It would take one heck of a drive to get under a hour. I am told the other forum will be up this weekend.. if so, I'll post a final deadline once it is up. |

Well, as I say, I'm on a 3-stopper. And to get to that the tyres are medium which compromises lap time, so I definitely won't manage it!
Maybe in the Shelby Daytona Coupe! |
