Jan at Jag?
Eddie is already complaining that he'll be burned-out from racing AND testing. What are the chances that Jan Magnussen will be hired to test for Jag now that he's left the DTM? (Remember he drove for the outfit when it was Stewart).

Jan was hopeless when he drove for them in the Stewart guise. A much better bet would be to use their F3 driver, Courtney. He at least has the potential to progress to a racing role (not that I am a biased Aussie).

Yep, I agree with slipstream. Mr Rahal, hire Courtney!

Jan Magnussen is up there with Pedro Lamy and (sorry folks) Jean Alesi for drivers who've never QUITE realised their potential.

please NOT that courtney bloke. the fact he already has a model girlfriend and looks so smug gives off the vibes he's not quite the one to make it big....

I can't remember him all that interested in F1 as a career progression |

He actually lead one F1 race before the lure of peroxide blondes with large resumes had him on the next flight home to Vagus!
Seriously, he respects Jacques so he can't be all bad. |

Personally, I don't care if Jan goes to Jag or not. I just thought that Jag might want a TEST-driver who has had actual seat-time(ie. PDR). After Jan's denial of interest in Jag and his 'committment' to Panoz, it seems more likely they're talking. Have you noticed everytime denials are made, that later the facts are a 180? But who knows?

I think F1 has passed Paul by. He's not getting any younger, or smaller either! Just don't say Dario, as his mind is somewhere other than racing at the moment. He can't keep pace with Paul. Is Magnusson not racing for Panoz in ALMS this year? Once you get a bad rep in F1, it's hard to get a ride again. |

I reckon that jaguar should give young Scheckter another chance. Considering that Wests Tigers (AMoffats loser team) are willing to give John Hopoate another chance, then Jaguar should be able to find it in their hearts to forgive young Scheckter for the much lessor offence.
AND AMoffat, please don't bother to modify my words if you are going to quote me!! Last edited by Valve Bounce; 11 May 2001 at 05:02. |

Autosport seemed to think that F3000 driver Justin Wilson might be in line for the drive, being about the only F3000 driver to never have had as much a test in an F1 car before. He's certainly showing some pace in F3000 at the moment and I'm sure he could do a faaaaaaaaaaaar better job for Jag than someone like Anthony Davidson, who'd only competed in one slicks and wings race when BAR signed him as a test driver.

It's true what Senna12 says, Paul Tracy had a test with Benetton in - 95, was it? Somewhere around that time anyway.
Regarding Jan Magnussen - if you ever saw unfulfilled potential, he had it. Too bad he couldn't cut it in F1, and I don't think he'll get the testing seat at Jaguar. But who knows, stranger things have happened, and if he were to get it, I wish him the best of luck. |
