Jaguar and HSBC
It appears all in the garden is not rosey between Jaguar and their principal sponsor HSBC.
You may recall that Sir Jackie Stewart used his numerous connections to entice HSBC to back his fledgling Stewart team, it was often said that their involvement in F1 was a catalyst behind the bank rolling the HSBC brand out worldwide. The HSBC are also Ford's bankers worldwide, which no doubt help to smooth a path for the deal in the first place. However, recent rumours have forced Jaguar to confirm that HSBC are not happy, Monaco being paricularly unpleasant for it's sponsors according to Tony Purnell ""I know HSBC were disappointed with Monaco," he told The Times. "All the big cheeses were there and then, in the first 30 seconds, Christian (Klien) is out and then Mark rolls to a halt. For that race, we were filled to the gills with fuel and the engineers tell me we could have finished third and fifth and you think, blimey, if we had come away with that result, we would have been the heroes of the hour. But motor racing turns on these small things." The deal is worth around $30M per year to Jaguar, which is a difficult gap to fill, but should the problem arise it's likely that Red Bull would step up their involvement which could see F3000 front runner, Vitantonio Liuzzi, move into a role with the team. http://www.planet-f1.com/news/story_15850.shtml |

No way that Re Bull will fill the gap unless they pull the plug from Sauber. They are only injecting $4.5M for Klien's ride and don't see they'll put up with another $25.5M for Liuzzi even though he's very talented.

HSBC want to sponsor McLaren next year if possible.
Could be just rumours because i just heard the commentators mention it during the Euro GP. |

Maybe Jaguar should value there track performance more (see other thread!).
Third and fifth? Interesting. If if if... There are a lot of ifs for that one, the first one probably being "if we had a better car". |

It shames me to think I bank at HSBC (BANK, not anything else ). People might associate me with those crappy green cars.
I hope Jackie comes back and revives the great Stewart GP team which is so sadly missed. |

Jaguar seems to be a failure from the start. See, even BAR has managed to get better days, and now they look big ! |

HSBC's deeper ties with Ford would surely make it unfeasible for them to support McLaren. Maybe a better idea would be for them to add title sponsorship to CART?

Would a move to McLaren really be much better?

HSBC is also a world bank (remember the ad!). I don't know the specifics of its NA business and it is probably important, but it wants world wide exposure. And lots of it. CART can't give it that. http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...5&pagenumber=2 |

If this situation leads to Jaguar pulling out of F1 great!
They should never have been there in the first place. Leave F1 to the Ford brand and get Jaguar back in sportscars. |
