Persistent rumors suggest it'll like be the M6 or a new coupe based on the 7-Series platform.
So it'll be a rather large car and not a nimble little sports car. |

I think it will be a new sportscar following a similar route to ford, building a sportscar around the rule book and not adapting an already produced road car.

The rumours I heard said the new Z8 is in development and will be most likely platform for GTE.
Remember, Ford haven't actually delivered any GT's yet (maybe they have just started or are starting shortly) so that sets the precedent that you can run a GTE version of an unreleased road car, for a full racing season before the road car is delivered. Gives BMW plenty of time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Apparently there will be no M version of the Z5, which makes a racing version seem unlikely. Something new then.

Certainly hope it is a real sports car not a glorified touring car like the M6 GT3.

Maybe i8, but without the hybrid? Or maybe they will allow hybrid GTE in 2018

But the modifications needed to make the i8 mid engined may be too great. |

Schnitzer is pretty well deep in DTM racing at the moment but it wouldn't surprise me if they switch over to run the WEC program in 2018.
Big question will be whether is will be 2 or 4 cars running at Le Mans ala Ford which means we could see RLL join Europe team/Schnitzer. |

BTW - Can the title of this thread be changed to BMW confirmed in GTE in 2018? It's confusing right now.

Off topic, but has anyone grown really bored of DTM this season?
I would now rather see a big team like Schnitzer transfer its weight to the 2018 GTE programme. I personally think the Z8 will be the platform, they got a lot of stick for building the chunky mother they have right now in GTLM, and Ford has changed the game somewhat with the bespoke sportscar platform they have bought in. I like to see a big difference in touring car and GT car too, not a fan of that crossover size and shape Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Team Studie BOB Suzuki revealed the rumor that BMW Motorsport is planning a very big Le Mans Project below water for next year or the year after that. Team Schnitzer did not participate in DTM this year for that development.
(He made that remark as a sympathy for the victims of the Osaka earthquake that occurred today. So this rumor is very credible.) https://lineblog.me/studiebob/archives/9336580.html Last edited by Japanese Samurai; 18 Jun 2018 at 07:27. |
