Local yellows or SC deployed when it happened?
As far as I understand echo and team were in the middle of live incident recovery with local yellow lights when it happened. SC deployed immediately after marshal hit. But the yellow lights that the flag posts were given were in my opinion were shockingly bad and inadequate. Similar to motorway roadworks. I agree full investigation.

Best wishes to our fallen hero. Hope you make full pain free recovery my friend

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to the person involved. While I wasnt marshalling this weekend I was at Silverstone and saw some of the aftermath. I agree the lights were poor although I believe that the cars went off due to large amount of oil that had been dropped. This was sort of confirmed as they let the car which hit the marshal continue, as ultimatly I dont believe there was a lot he could do (after all there was no light for alerting drivers to a change in surface).

Do they live snatch in the dark? I haven't done a 24 hour in a while but my recollection was that snatches were usually under safety car in the dark because of the problems with visibility.

oil, that it explains it - bad enough in the daylight, but in the dark, as you say, impossible to signal to approaching cars. Still, the yellows should have been adequate.

Yes they did do live snatch without using the safety car, they seemed to use a mix of JCB's fire trucks and recovery flat beds.
I think the problem with the lighting was that they flash a yellow light a driver will come round and see the car in the gravel and slow but wasnt expecting the oil as they didnt know and certainly wouldnt see it. I just wanted to make that clear as I didnt want the driver/team being branded wrongly.

If it's far enough off line RC gives clearance with caution. And in regards to a bodysnatchers comment at the end of the day these are racing drivers

Just thought I would pop in here and say a big thank you to all the marshals who helped out this weekend. Sterling job as always, and I think I speak on behalf of spectator and competitor alike when I say that it is fully appreciated...

...apart from those of you down at Stowe this weekend. Your taste in 'music' leaves a lot to be desired!

Very pleased to hear it was *only* a broken leg after a couple of rumours which filtered our way. Hope you're well soon

Aside from that, it was a great weekend. Thanks again to everybody for their help in the pit lane, including the people who came to get stuck in after their duties were complete, and to Roy for his involvement too. Also thanks to the competitors themselves who were, with a couple of exceptions very cooperative and organised, making our lives much easier. Despite very hard worked legs, large numbers of spectators, and etc., a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. And now to bed (well, maybe via the shower).

Don't get me wrong I'm not portioning blame on anyone we all know the risks. I feel sorry for the driver he must feel so terrible but it wasn't his fault

Some of the music was certainly debatable...there was some good stuff mixed in though...promise!

A great weekend on Stowe, great crew and a great atmosphere right through with the "stoweaways"

Many I add my best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured marshal. As a spectator at Stowe when the accident happened all the blue flashing lights in the distance were a big worry.

btw...great work by the Vale crew. Not as busy during the night as last year but still plenty of 'business', including #6 and #2 who were both leading at the time.

Last night wasnt the same with out flashing head lights and the sounds of GT cars.

Massive thanks to everyone at Silverstone and especially the boys on Luffield in who made my first trip to the circuit and Britcar24 a very enjoyable one.

Also nice to to know that the rumours about the boys in black and orange arnt true and that Barry,Steve,Rich and Alan(Daad) made feel welcome and part of the team.

Hope our fallen orange hero had a more comftable night and its feeling better

I was in the Civic that went off on the oil first and the marshals were trying to hook up when the Ginetta also came off on the same oil.

My thoughts are with the Marshal for a swift recovery. i've posted on this forum many times of my respect and admiration for the job you guys do and I know that is echo'd by every driver in the pitlane. It's horrible when you hear of something like this and sitting behind the wall not knowing the extent of his injuries was just sickening.

Very nice of you to take the time to post.
Thoughts with the Marshal and his speedy recovery. (and the drivers who are reliving the event)

Having suffered a broken leg I know just how much pain our fellow marshal would have been in. My thoughts are with him / her and hope that they'll soon recover and be back on the bank soon.

I would just like to say it was nice to talk or just smile at all the different Marshals up and down the pit lane and behind the garages, when I was wandering around, giving transponders out to cars, who own transponders had gone down during the 24hrs. The timekeeping team were very concerned when we heard that a marshal had been injured during the night. I was just going for my sleep and my first question when I came back was " Any news on the Marshal". I hope he has a speedy recovery. I shall be back hopefully again next year !!

Thanks to everyone I worked with this weekend - Firstly Village Post6 on Friday, including the bouncing Smart and stranded F3. Both very well handled, thanks very much. Secondly to the startline / pitlane / ch flag teams, loved being in there this weekend, despite the unsafe invasion in the final few minutes.

Best wishes to the marshals involved in the incident at Maggotts on Saturday night.

It was a unique experience trying to corale the public at times with little or no help from onsite security, we have been down that road before at this meeting so I'll leave that there.
The crew were a scream as always, despite some obvious difficulties I feel we managed it well enough. Great to meet some new people and renew old aquaintences alike. Will be back next year but I feel I need to join my regular crews on the bank. Thanks again and I know I'll be back to visit those in the pitlane.

Yes we do do live snatches in the dark. Last year at Vale in the Britcar 24hr we did something around 15 or more in the dark under yellows.

Of course Nina and I extend our love and best wishes to our injured colleague. We are saddened that it happened at all, but thanking whatever greater powers there are that it was not even worse.

We also extend our love and best wishes to the whole Echo team, for who it must have been such a shock but soldiered on regardless.

Also of course a big thank you to the responders - it is good knowing that you are there.

Had a great day at Beckett's Inside on Fri - had a visit from an MX5 who scuffed my nice white tyre wall. Crew as always were fantastic.

Village for the 24hr. Crew were fantastic. We had such a great time with everybody. Atmosphere was brilliant with many laughs along the way. A real integrated team with lots of confidence in each other. I love it when this happens.

Weather was stunning (but very hot) - night sky was beautiful. Did anyone else spot the Space Station passing over at sunrise at about 06:30? It was a rare sight in perfect conditions.

Oh yes, and we did a few incidents (fortunately no crashes). It was interesting having 3 at once on 3 different spots on a very large post in the very early hours....

Great 24 hours (excepting the obvious of course)

(Tony)

We spotted a white dot moving across the sky (approx west to east) which was too fast to be a plane and too slow to be a meteor. Don't know if that was it tho'

had a great time at the loop on friday and brooklands through the weekend, fantatsic people and a good laugh

pretty quiet until the lead mosler paid us a dramatic visit and woke us up a bit on sunday afternoon, shame he ended up with us as would have ended up being a good scrap for the lead. was a bit nasty buring under the tyres, just glad that the fire was out quick and driver was ok if a little shaken.

Great weekend all round, just a shame I had to get up for work this morning!

Firstly - I hope that our injured marshal makes a speedy recovery and that the team who were on that post are all ok!

Secondly - WHAT A FAB WEEKEND!!!! Definitely putting my name down for all three days next year! Thanks to our Friday team at Farm - quiet day with the exception of a visiting Caterham, and to our weekend team at Chapel In! Another quiet two days at Chapel, but the Redditch Ruffnecks rendition of Morning has Broken and some scary sleeping type occurances made the event a scream. Just remind me, next year, not to go drinking rocket fuel in the middle of the night. And buy a tent to take to post so that I can try and get some proper sleep instead of sprawling in the new hut.

Sadly this was our last event of the season now , so off to wash the probans, turf out marshal bag, and start writing next year's wish list!!

Just to echo what everyone else has said and hope the injured marshal is back on his/her feet soon.

For me, this the motor-sport highlight of the year and it just keeps getting better, thanks to Britcar, the BRSCC and everyone who makes it possible. For those wanting to relive the weekend here is a link to a few photos, not taken by me I hasten to add, Britcar24hrs

Loved the whole event. Best club race meeting of the season followed by the brilliant 24hours. Superb.

As everyone else has said, best wishes to the injured marshal for a full and rapid recovery. Those yellow lights do need looking at, though, and can't have given the drivers much information.

Also reminded why I haven't upgraded to observer: "Control from post 7. Car 51 overtook... forgotten the number... under waved yellows." Even though as a flaggie I'd been following the car for blues for several laps. Happily Post 6 was on the ball and could give the correct number!
