Their race pace has always been relatively good, in part to being able to manage these kind of things. There were hints in practice too.

Alpine is still quick. Which makes these races so interesting, the pace of your car can be good or bad for parts of a stint, but you have to call tire strategy to match your car and track conditions to make it work.
