It had a slot in the front bumper with a small yellow arrow, and I think the tow ring is supposed to fold out, but the marshalls didn't see it.

Probably because it's a brand new car and Jim Bob's Towing in Daytona has never seen it. I'd be willing to bet a traveling safety team would have already done that at the Roar.

From Mowlem it sounds slippery out there - "Ran out of opposite lock!" All the usual - white lines slippery, bus stop and infield aquaplaning.

Safety vehicles were still on the track when the session went green. I hope they got out of the way!

I don't want to scare anyone, but the 50 DP is in front of 3 other cars in class.

Congrats to Nick Tandy for continuing his dominance over IMSA with overall pole. Haha, that's great.

Hmm, there were about 10 pairs of eyes watching this so surprised no one saw that. Wondered if was damaged? It looked like they threw chains through the front wheels and started pulling from there. I can bet the suspension guy was cringing watching that!

I can hear it now, "Well, it looks like you knocked your rear wing off in the accident and then we pulled on your front suspension and now your front tires both point in at 45 degrees!"

Hats off to the drivers for having no major damage after that! Hoping it stays dry all through the race. IMSA website stream worked great for me on my phone. Will just use that instead of the app.

Wurz did quite well for his first wet laps ever at Daytona. I think the P class could've gone faster but the rain got worse as qualifying went on.

Let GTLM start up front. That will be epic. And they will be fast enough to lead the first 2-3 laps before the first proto goes by.

Trying to think, do the LMP1s struggle this much in the rain?

Sorry, misread your question as DPs or P2s instead of LMP1s. Yes, LMP-1s should be bit better in the rain because of the quality of the tire they use is probably higher. The big question is whether the hybrids can lay down all that power without losing control in the wet.

Bykolles may be a bit suspect in the rain though in any case…

When it gets seriously heavy the short answer is yes. Back in 2007 when they pretty much had to stop the race at Le Mans the GTs were going past the prototypes in the final racing laps because they've got way more mechanical grip and the LMPs can't go anywhere near fast enough to make the aero come into play.

Would that have made a difference today? Who knows?

An LMP1 is heavier, wouldn't be on control tyres, and we've genuinely no data about what one might do - be seriously interesting to find out though wouldn't it?

This it would! I do think back to COTA WEC and the red flag..

Audi and Porsche for sure didn't have that much in the way of problems outpacing the field in wet and dry at Fuji and Shanghai last year.

But then again, tons of downforce and good wet weather tires help as well as AWD for the hybrid LMP1s.

But even then there's a point--often a huge downpour while most of the field are on slick tires--where everyone is equally as screwed. And GT cars have the benefit of weighing more and that added mass pushes more water out of the way. Also until 2014, LMP1s ran wider wheels and tires than GT cars did.

Even at Mosport in 2000, GT1 cars were as fast as anything out there not counting Audi, Panoz and BMW LMPs.
