I think it’s a bit harsh to say they can’t run a championship, they’ve done well to keep it going. We’ll see what happens with the new rules, as there is still a place for the DTM. GT may or may not work, but I feel DTM needs to remain a specialised touring car series. I wouldn’t mind too much if they went to GT3, it might not be quite the same, but we’ll see

Governing bodies of DTM haven't been always excellent in their handling of the championship but they still know better how to do this than keyboard warriors on tentenths forum. Name a single championship whose handling is perfect.
For me it's great Berger was able to finally reach some agreement with other parties and this gives hopes for quite a prosperous continuity of the championship. DTM won't lose most of its popularity and appeal just because of regulations change. We'll see how it works in terms of racing, field quality and size but I think it's worth giving it a chance. I'm still certain GT Pro idea is an interim solution. |

What did he reach? Just another GT Masters (instead of Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters)? The same "great" Berger has already helped to destroy a normal Euro F3. Now - DTM, which looks like a complete joke if to compare to Super GT.

He did his best in difficult circumstances. But the series needed more than that. We can’t blame him for everything. I expect DTM to survive, it’s done well against Super GT, which will really come to the fore in 2021

I don't understand the reference "done well against Super GT"??
Or "will come to the fore in 2021"?? |

With the basis he had there was no need to be an Einstein and invent "GT Masters Premium Edition". Economics is not my strength, so I'm curious how Argentine manage to have full grids of silhouettes. More to say, I have never thought to say this but Brazilian Stock Cars have more sense than DTM or who knows how it should be called properly. The richest country of Europe is not able to make a descent top-tier touring class. Maybe they just have no need, no enthusiasm at all?

I think your last sentence is exactly the problem at the moment. The interest in the series has gone done a lot. I've just looked around a bit, apparently there were around half a million TV viewers for the season opener at Zolder this year, the average last year was around 600k per race. That's half of what it was 10 years ago. Interaction on social media also seems low if you just take a brief look at number of likes and comments from recent posts. There is no drama in the series, there is no interesting tricks being played, there is just nothing that would keep you really interested in the whole thing. GT3 seems like the only way to keep it going for now. There's just no sensible alternative given how late in the year it already is. GT3 cars are available and if it all folds, at least they can still be used elsewhere. But still, they need some ideas soon on where the whole thing should be heading at the end of 2021. |

Five, six years ago Audi, BMW and Mercedes made the mistake not to go full electric. They had the money and power to make that change. |

I'm wondering if this GT3 malarkey is all a stop-gap before the HYDRACE concept gets going. After all, the organisations behind that were largely German, including ADAC. It would make sense for the German car industry to go that way if they're looking for future technologies. Certainly, it would make more sense than either the current regulations or GT3.

GT3 is an interim solution, I'm sure that, depending on motorsport's direction, DTM will move to different regulations, probably electric ones.

BMW ends partnership with Schnitzer and RBM.
RMG will develop the new M4 GT3. Last edited by FIRE; 5 Dec 2020 at 15:41. |

That's quite surprising. BMW is out of DTM, soon will leave FE, its IMSA programme will probably cease as well, kicks out long-time teams... what's next for them then?

Will be interesting to see what their motorsport future - besides the new M4 GT3 - is.
Don't see them return in F1, so will they return to Le Mans? Would love to see a 1-Series TCR. |

Doubt they'll be interested in TCR to be honest but Le Mans? Who knows!

Schnitzer started the development. Presumably RMG are taking that over?
Huge blow to Schnitzer this news though. Back in the heydays when they were the benchmark touring car outfit people often referred to 'the Schnizer cars' and not 'the BMWs' such was the impact Charly Lamm had. |

Schnitzer really have been the de facto BMW tin top team, real shame for this to happen

I wonder what the reason is behind such a decision.

Maybe Schnitzer could be interested in developing a TCR car? I assume they'd be able to get some kind of blessing from the factory and it could be an interesting business case. Not the slightest idea if it's realistic or not, purely my wishful thinking speaking.

Unrealistic. Herbert Schnitzer Jr. told the german media, that the team likely will be closed.

Time flies. Sad to see Schnitzer leave racing.
