BTW, Hamann, I really like the track.
Thought I do think pirenzo's mods would be more fun to drive. Wish I knew how to do tracks for GPL... It'd be great if we could actually drive these circuits! Hell... I wish I could just _play_ GPL... |

Here are those tweaks... First, pirenzo's challenge.
(I can't help thinking that it looks too short...) Turn 1: Semi-tight left hander that requires lots of braking. Good for overtaking. Winner of hole shot can get a good run coming out of the turn. Short Straight: Comprised of a downhill section and a kink, this straight takes you to 4th gear, approx. 160 m.p.h. Turn 2: Wider and "looser" than Turn 1, although passing maneuvers can still take place here. Hairpin Straight: Virtually flat, with one kink. 4th gear. Turn 3-"The Hairpin": Tight left-hand hairpin that requires hard breaking. Popular viewing spot. Placed on an uphill to simulate banking. The Chute: Short straight where cars demonstrate great acceleration. Has a right-hand bend at the end. Turn 4: Somewhat tight right hander. Overtaking can be done. Valley Straight: A downhill section, a bend at the lowest point in the track, and then an uphill, make up this famous stretch of track. Turns 5a+5b: An uphill right followed by a relatively flat left. Turn 6-"The Downhill Bend": This small section of the track is known world-wide for its 25-degree banking, made of a natural hill, leading to a tight left in the valley. It is a good spot for overtaking maneuvers, and is popular with the spectators. Turn 7-"The Uphill Turn": A wide right that leads up the hill, out of the valley. Turn 8: Turn 8 is a very wide, uphill sweeper that also has a bit of banking to it. Main Straight: 1/4 mile long straight that has a bend and a downhill section at the beginning. The track has two shortcuts, which enables it to have four different configuations. What do you think now, pirenzo? |

As for Hakkiman's challenge, I think this works. Seven different configurations

By the way, the_royksopp, I just noticed that you are three days younger than me, when I thought I was the youngest person here. It was just an observation. N-A Cheers!

Considering how fast today's cars are, if it weren't for the chincane, the drivers would be reaching 400 km/h before they would brake for the next corner, and I really think that's a bit too fast. |

I like, pirenzo. Thumbs-up.

So, what do you think of my "Within the Rules" version of your challenge, pirenzo?

Fantastic circuit, undoubtably the toughest, most hellish motor circuit in the world, but quite frankly, as sad as it is to say it, I really have to admit that the 'ring could not have been kept on the calendar after Lauda's accident. That said, it's my dream to see an F1 car/F1 race on that track... At least the track still gets a workout in the 24 hr race. |

That last turn before turning onto the Oval again. I did it because i wanted to stop cars crashing head on into the outside wall under braking.

And another.... An external Roval this time. Coupling a 2.0 mile speedway with a 1 mile almost flat one. I think Turns 1, 6, 9 and 10 will be passing spots, not to mention passing on the numerous long straights

Nice.
Well, i'm off on another holiday tomorrow. This time i'm goin' abroad. To Malta. Today in London it's 36 degrees C (96 deg F). And it's gonna be hotter tomorrow. It's unbearable. Luckily it's gonna be cooler (and less humid) in Malta. I might be going to Germany at the end of August. And if we go we'll be stopping off at the 'Ring on the way |

Anything that can draw is good!
Myself and a few others actually use the drawing tools in Excel though! |

Hamann.
Open excel Go view>toolbars>drawing A drawing toolbar should come up in the bottom of the screen Click on "autoshapes" Go to "lines" then "curve" draw your line. Then right click on it and select "edit points" a load of dots will appear on your line. Right click on the line between the dots and you can edit the so called segments (ie make them curved or straight) and right clicking on the dots with allow you to edit how the lines pass through them, and cool stuff like that. click and hold the dots to drag them around, and click and hold the segments to add a new point and move that part of the line around. In that way you can constantly change your track to your liking, and edit it until you're happy. |
