Hopefully that comes off (and the race is good).

It’s been 5 years since we had a last round decider. We deserve to see it live

“Deserve”. None of us deserve anything.
But it would be good for it to live. |

A question for those who normally watch F1 on Sky, if C4 show the race live would you watch the C4 coverage or stay with Sky?

Channel 4 to show Formula 1 season finale 'The final race of the Formula 1 season on Sunday will be shown live on free-to-air television on Channel 4. The channel has struck a deal with Sky to share the rights to the winner-takes-all race between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi.' |

Excellent.I have never seen Sky coverage but I fear its apparent saturation approach might be too rich a diet for me. I very much like the Ch 4 team -if I put nostalgia for the old days of Murray and James aside , I think their coverage (and mix of presenters ) is as good as I've seen . But I do miss Brundle - he is a broadcasting natural

I guess one question is whether Channel 4 will use their own presenting team, or if they will simply use the Sky feed in entirety with Sky commentary.
IIRC, when they (Ch4) recently showed the Emma Raducanu final, it was a direct feed of the Amazon broadcast. |

They'll use their own team, as they have throughout the duration of their contract.

'Channel 4’s usual Formula 1 partner Whisper will produce wrap-around content, while race commentary will be provided by Sky Sports F1’s David Croft and Martin Brundle. The move to allow Channel 4 to air some of their own bespoke pre and post-race content, whilst taking Sky commentary is a sensible compromise between the two broadcasters, off the heels of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.' Edit - I realise the confusion in my previous post. I referred to 'presenting team', when I was actually thinking 'commentary team'. |

Well that's great news C4 are showing it live. Not so sure about them using the Sky commentary team, but I guess that was part of a compromise

Seriously - it is good that the compromise has been reached, but I am against a position that sports of any type should be FTA, just because. If a FTA broadcaster can justify the cost of obtaining coverage, then fine. But if the market drives it behind a paywall, then our own judgment has to be made on whether we think it is worth the expense... |

i watched the race last weekend (on a dodgy stream, i'm not made of money) and don't get what people are complaining about with crofty. maybe folk are looking for a bit more of a wildlife documentary style like you get in endurance racing. |

Honestly...I like Croft. He isn't amazing, but he's a lot better than most series have. He'll never be Murray (nobody ever will be), but I feel like we've forgotten how bad Legard and Allen were in the box.

I stand corrected! I expected them to use Jacques and Coulthard (or Billy Monger), but hey ho.
If anything really tasty happens I can flick channels and watch it again as they're almost always about 5-10 seconds apart And thanks, Akrapovic. I'd forgotten them - Legard, a bit like Croft, was really good on the BBC radio coverage but just didn't swap well to TV. |

These days, I sometimes wonder what he would have been like if he hadn't been trying to do his job on ITV, the channel where talent goes to die (or, at least, it was back then). Probably still dreadful to be honest, but Legard subsequently made James look like peak Murray Walker. Crofty is just another James Allen really. So from this day on I will take that old forummers advice, just in case we get another Legard. Keep up the good work Crofty. |

I was looking at Saturday on tvguide.co.uk and that doesn't include showing Qualifying live on C4, only highlights. |

Channel 4 still haven't released an updated dataset that includes the new coverage details. Edit - Channel 4 are not showing qualifying live, just the race. |
