Last minute programing changes often result in guides not being updated in time.

Keep an eye on the time slot and channel regardless of what guide says. Also usefull if you are recording.

Its great that a deal was made. The more people who get to watch live the better.

The race thread will be more interesting at least.

Much in the same way that for us that most of us actually pay to use the NHS through various taxes, although it is true to say that it is free at the point of delivery.

Quite frankly putting the coverage exclusively behind a paywall was always going to be a bad move. It may be alright for those who are prepared to pay it, but it certainly was less likely to gain new viewers. Very short sighted move and one that should never have happened. The fans are the big losers of this

I would add the sponsors & thereby the teams to the list of losers. As less eyes see the races the incentive to pay for sponsorship reduces.

Which TV companies?

It seems like you are suggesting that Sky's production team should listen to the opinions of Channel 4's viewers (who haven't paid for Sky's F1 coverage) for a one-off race.

Sky seem to have been perfectly content with their commentator for 9 years so far, so I still stand by the position that Channel 4 viewers have no entitlement to demanding Sky change the commentary team for this one race.

The great thing about watching Le Mans at home this year (the only great thing....) was being able to watch everything live on Autosport Player with ambient sound to which I could sync and add the RLM commentary.....

That is exactly what happened to IndyCar. It went behind a pay-wall, audiences dwindled and the sponsors left.

But the original post wasn't about having an opinion on the commentators - it was about being entitled to have a say (stake) in who the commentators are.

It was even clarified, and then you doubled down on being entitled to have a say (not opinion):

'If we want it on free-to-air - we don't deserve a say in who commentates.'
'Of course we do'

For the final time - I will stand by by point.
If we are receiving a free-to-air, one-off coverage, then we are entitled to voice an opinion on the commentators, but we are not entitled to have a say in who they are.

Initially the majority of AOWR fans stuck with CART. However, once some of the big teams, like Andretti Green Racing, Chip Ganassi and Penske jumped ship then the split in the fanbase began to take it's toll. A couple of big teams like Forsythe and Newman/Haas stayed with CART and then it turned into Champ Car but by then both series were already behind pay walls.

I'm not trying to fan any flames here and admit that any 'opinion' we C4 viewers may have about the commentary may not carry as much weight as those who have paid Sky for the whole seasons coverage. But, as has been explained earlier in this thread there is no such thing as free to air coverage, one way or another we are paying for it either through our license fee, or by falling for any adverts shown during the programme, so we are still consumers/customers. (Actually, that has raised another thought will the race be interrupted by advertisements? I don't think Sky have them?)

I wonder by sky making their coverage available to C4 viewers are they hoping to get more subscriptions to their service?

Although it might the wrong time of the season to try it as many will have forgotten to do it by next March.

I think it is more simple - Sky are happy to take a big cheque from Ch4, and Ch4 are hoping to make that back from selling advertising slots.
