Wow wow wow. Great to see. Great to watch. Great on the timing screen.
Firstly how did it do agains the best GTEs (chosen the fastest lap and top speed GTEs) Average Lap time
But what about the top speed. Average Maximum Speed
The interesting thing here is that the top speeds drop off quicker than the GTEs. I think this is probably just a function of them building up the speed. I guess the top speed chart will show more consistency later in the week. Button mentioned that the top speed wasn’t as fast as the GTEs. This was the case after the first session. https://youtu.be/SA6HPBEtj-k It also sounded like the main place they lose out is under brakes. Whatever it isn’t just the top speed that got that lap time. It’s pretty good in every sector. Slightly worse in the final sector, but not the perceived stereotype those ignorant Europeans viewed the NASCAR Those sector time comparisons.
And how do the drivers compare? Not too many laps from them all. Average Lap time
Note: sorry the colors of the G56 car isn’t consistent across the max speed and lap time charts. Last edited by Adam43; 5 Jun 2023 at 00:55. Reason: Added the number of laps the car/drivers did. |

Having not seen any pitstop footage, is it too much to hope they do driver changes via the windows in the style of The Dukes of Hazzard? :-)

It's good the ACO has allowed them to do things their way. You wouldn't think they would approve of the car having no doors, but there you go

The stock cars entered in 1976 did not have doors either. As this year's effort is a return of Nascar to LeMans after so long, and a celebration of Nascar's 75th Anniversary and the LeMans 24's 100th anniversary, the Garage 56 entry is keeping true to Nascar.
It does have more aero. I wish we knew other specs. I believe the engine is running unrestricted and is likely the most powerful IC engine in the field. Marshal Pruet is going to be embedded in the G56 pit for the race, reporting on their race, I'm not the biggest Nascar fan (but I was at the '76 D24 when some stocks cars were run leading to the LeMans effort that same year) and my jingoism is mostly in check, but this project has captivated and I really hope they have a good run and rattle the rafters for the full 24! |

There is a link in this story with full side by side comparison of the G56 and Cup car specs.
Headlines Weight - 1342kg (about 245kg less than Cup spec!) Gearbox - 5 speed paddle shift (vs 5 speed sequential shift) Wheels/tyres - slightly wider wheels and wider rear tyres for G56 Fuel cell - 127 litres (about 48 litres more than Cup) https://motorsports.nbcsports.com/20...mans-next-gen/ |

Here are the fuel tank sizes for GTE
MAXIMUM ONBOARD FUEL VOLUME (liter)
Based on very little I guess the G56 is thirstier. So similar stint? |

Yeah but its pretty highly modified from a standard Nascar cup car. Just look at the aero on the thing.

With 36 more litres, may be one more lap than 'Vette, those beast are highly developed and the MPG is good given the rev limit. May be they will lose some time when changing the driver, passing through the window requires the skills of an acrobat. Anyway, I already love it!

Did you see the LMP2 searching for the drag in the straight? Impressive. Not sure but it seems they have antifog lights which could be useful during the night to fin the apex.

Yes but some parts are not modified...... im looking forward to the pit stops and driver changes. No opening doors, just the usual driver's window access and exit. A bit out of Jenson's comfort zone I suspect.

Well it's not like he was used to opening a door himself when racing, just tell him the car is on a slant

Very useful info. You wouldn't think they would be able to save that much weight, maybe a few kilos at best. Either way, it's been so far so good for team and car. I'm not expecting miracles, but if it can have a nice reliable run, it's a job well done.

I really, really hope this beast has a faultless, thundering run from green to checker. Can it out-run GTE AMs for the 24? I think so. |
