The Pro-Am element of LMP2 also seems to be a great equaliser across a race length. No need to jump to BoP right now.

That's an interesting point. I know there was talk of allowing all Pro driver line-ups in WEC LMP2 next year in an attempt to attract young pro driver money, which might also be tied into the interest in turning the WEC into a winter schedule. What's the status of that? It seemed like all Pro lineups was going to be approved but then there seems to have been some push back…

I havent seen anyone mention this, but Vasselon was speaking of possibly supplying lmp2 engines in the future. Imo, it would be the 5L V8 from the RC F (GT3).

Murphy and Jota testing new Dunlops at Monza, but more interestingly they will run to the first corner chicane-free as Audi did. Also should hear more about the 15 tire suppliers soon |

I can understand the decision to go with a common carbon-fiber coupe chassis, since that will reduce costs a lot. As long as P2 makers can still have their own aero etc. I don't mind if the chassis is the same, since P2 is about saving money.
But if they go with the same engine as well, then what's the difference between PC and P2? In my opinion they should open up the P2 engines regulations, let the engine makers do whatever they want to do. But have a cost cap for buyers and also a cost cap for engine research, production etc. And set a max power outage cap (bhp and torque) and minimum weight. |

LMPC uses spec Chevrolet, nowhere in that article does it say that there would/could be 'common' engine in P2. Even CRE offers variety.

Gibson releasing the Z16S in 2016, also updating the Z11SN for current teams. Also, talks of a new LMP2 engine supplier that is "actively represented in various GT categories, while having history in the Prototype ranks." My guesses at The likely candidates: Aston Martin (V8) Ferrari (V8) BMW (V8?) It's most likely Aston Martin, given they're the only one with recent Prototype experience (DBR 1-2 and AMR-One). Or perhaps it's that old SMP-Ferrari rumor. |

actually bmw is already an lmp2 engine supplier (the judd 3.6 V8 is nothing else than the M3 p65 engine). The wisest choice should be ferrari, the 458 V8 is very powerfull and should consume less than the 4.5 V8 nissan because of the DI; and I won't be surprised to see the ferrari engine as an exclusive for the SMP lmp2 coupè (the teams uses a lot of 458's in ELMS, BES etc... and the team that fields the two oreca03 in WEC is AF Corse)

What about that Ford Ecoboost from the DP? That would be my guess.

I think it's either Ferrari, BMW, Aston Martin or Audi. If it's Audi, it's only for Jota Sport.

I would rather have cost capped tubs that the P2 builders can buy and build their car around. Like the Courage tubs used by Pescarolo and Accura/HPD

Wait - what? Is P2 definitely having a common chassis in 2017?

I love it. The outdated looks, old technology, no real chassis availability and seemingly low ambitions, LMP2 has missed such mixture for some time now. DKR Engineering's ancient Lola, Ian Dawson's dusty Radical and Extreme Limite Paris's & Pegasus slow warhorse Norma were the last ones to go for such recipe... Lola-Mazdas not counted
Anyway I predict it won't have time to dominate that African debut for too long before it breaks apart. Zoo Racing & Pillbeam facilities haven't exactly been state of the art when we've seen pics Would love to see them running non Michelin/Dunlops |
