Anyone else think the lass doing the presenting looks a bit like a brunette Izzy out of neighbours?

Anyway, moving on... some video clips of the R10 next.... ahh the same one as before, looks like initial track test, with Biela doing the driving.

And thats your lot... apparently on-demand video will be avalible soon...

Hope it helped

Here is all the info just released by Audi.

http://www.speedarena.com/news/publi...cle_6324.shtml

Quote:
AUDI AG is once again one step ahead of the opposition: The inventor of ‘TDI’ will become the world’s first automobile manufacturer to fight for overall victory with a diesel engine at the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. The all-new Audi R10, which was unveiled on Tuesday in Paris, is powered by a totally new 5.5-litre, twelve-cylinder bi-turbo TDI engine, which is extremely quiet and economical.

Having read through the speedarena article, I get the impression that we will only see the car at Sebring and Le Mans next year, with a bigger program in 2007.

Actually someone from the audience asked Dr Ulrich about that, and he basically refused to be drawn on specifcs about it... something along the lines of "details about that programme will be announced soon". So no deffo Yes or No... just a a watch this space.

Oh and given that biela is in the testing video, I would expect him to be in the driver lineup... now who else??

Inside view of cockpit:

Some bad news however:
Quote:
Fans at Le Mans will no longer be able to see glowing brake discs on the Audi R10: The carbon-fibre brakes discs are fully enclosed in a cowling, similar to the Audi A4 DTM, which optimises the air flow and, as a result, the brake cooling. Just like on Formula 1 cars, the brake discs are no longer fed with cooling air through pipes but are cooled by air channelled through carbon-fibre ducts mounted directly to the suspension. The red brake calipers on the R10 are reminiscent of those fitted to Audi RS models.

Well Kristensen will be car and my favourites to join him are Biela, Pirro, McNish, Capello with and but there are a few drivers in with an outside chance and these include Letho, Ekström and Werner. Also what are the chance's of seeinh 3 R10's at Le Mans 2 for Joest and 1 for Champion?

More on the fancy steering wheel:
Quote:
A new vehicle data logging system (FDE) was developed for the R10 together with electronic partner Bosch. All data is transmitted by telemetry to the pits and shown in the cockpit on a steering wheel mounted display, similar to the MMI-System found in Audi production cars. The most important functions are controlled by buttons mounted on the steering wheel, which is equipped with a micro-processor and was developed together with the specialist company Megaline.

few things of interestingnote out of the speedarena article..
1) usuable rev range of 3000-5000rpm...
2) bodywok and monocoque intergrated, so no outer skin required, and a lighter car (missed that one in the presentation)
3) Gearbox is apparently lighter than the R8's... hmmmm. Out of interest, didn't Xtrac help with Tarus' gearbox?
4) Enclosed brake discs

Drivers wise... my guess would be
Kristensen, Pirro, Biela in one car (and why not, they did win LM three times on the trot )
McNish, Letho, Capello in the other. (If not Letho, Werner)

Then there's the heavier transmission/clutch to handle the much higher torque (500+ vs. 800+ lb-ft).
The new X-Trac transmission and ZF Sachs ceramic clutch in the R10 are actually lighter than the old Ricardo unit found in the R8.

according to mulsannescorner 2004 R8 page, wheels were previously 13.5x18 and 14.5 x18, now are 13x18 (mistake?) and 14.5 x18, front tyres were 33/65 R18 and now 33/68 R18. So, front wheels are taller, but not wider...

I expect 3 cars, like in 2000. I guess Abt, Kaffer and Ekstrom could also drive the R10 next year, if Audi pulls the plug out of DTM.

I'm sure the ACO now stipulate a maximum of 2 cars per team....?

Maybe the technical data on http://www.audi.com/audi/com/en1/exp...velopment.html is flawed. The press release says the following:
Quote:
The wider front tyres, which were commissioned by tyre partner Michelin, are completely new to the LM P1 class. They should reduce the sport-prototype’s inherent understeer tendency, which, in theory, is increased even further through the enormous thrust produced by the TDI engine.

They could easily run a third car as they did in 2002 by creating a "second" team for their third car. I for one am hoping that the third chassis will go to Champion with which to run Sebring and the ALMS with. I highly doubt that will be the case as a third chassis will likely be a backup/spare chassis for Joest to use in testing. My guess is that without an announcement, we'll likely see Champion with a single handicapped R8 in next year's ALMS... which would be fantastic news for Dyson!

Question:

ALMS versus ACO car? ie sprint vs enduro? Could it be that the reason the R10 North American plan wasn't announced is because Audi has a separate plan for sprints? That would be crazy, would it not?
