It's either the 1985 or 1986 Swann Series in which Wayne Gardner ran his 500cc GP Rothmans Honda, something tells me it was 1985 (no matter, i've got it on order from Duke).

They seem to be getting into replays of earlier programs now, with the Tasman episode airing last week, can't be too long before the 1980 Swann Series/F2/Sports Sedans from Sandown pop up again.

Have been rewatching alot of these programs over the last few days, it's the little things that you pick up on, particularly the Bathurst 1959/60 programs, a locked brake here, correction there. They look like they are cruising, yet hang the tail out exiting the corners.

Steve Thompson's drive at the wet Warwick Farm is superb, where did it all lead?

Whichever year it was, Gardner was having his first races on a V4 Honda, rather than the V3 he'd always been given before that. 1986 was his first world championship season on a V4, so the Swann Series in question was between the '85 and '86 World Championships. Was the Swann Series held at the very end of the year or at the very start?

There was a post about prices for the footage but it was prohibitive ($60 for a 15 minute clip or something). Maybe that has changed since they have transferred many of the races to digital for broadcast.

Yes, prices were very expensive for copies. I watched some more of the footage yesterday which I had put onto DVD. Something I can look back on in the future just to keep those memories going.

It was at the start of the year and HRC were using the series to help Gardner acclimatise to the extra power of the V4.

The Surfers' race i sawsome with Tasmanian Malcolm "Wally" Campbell on a V3 Honda serving up to Wayne.

Wally would catch Gardner through the twisty stuff and lose it when Gardner applied tremendous skill and riding ability to twist the throttle all the way open.

One of the series also featured Englishman Rob McElnea, known these days for running the Virgin Mobile Yamaha team in the British Superbikes, and also overseeing the Yamaha R6 Cup, which is the focus of the TV 'Natural Born Racers'

I had these races from what seems to be the '86 series on tape for years (handed down through family), last time i would have seen it would have been a decade or so ago, over time it's gone missng.

With abit of luck in the future they might be able to some of the Castrol 6 Hour races from Amaroo and Oran Park.

According to some posts on the Nostalgia Forum over at AtlasF1 the ABC plan on releasing 'Late Night Legends' on DVD later this year, along with other stuff (whether that means other stuff in their archives, or other stuff that will appear on LNL at a later date, not sure)

fordlover - if you are interested in old F1 stuff there is a show on FoxSports Thursday morning next week called * The History of Motor Sport* ...goes from 6.00am to 8.30am. You might like to record that.

Also there is a repeat cycle for Late night Legends.

Learn how to use your Electronic Program Guide as you can program your motorsport viewing one week ahead and you can set it to come on automatically.

The Swann Series was always held at the end of the year, mostly late November to early December and on 3 consecutive weekends at Surfers Paradise,Oran Park and Calder although not always in that order.

That EPG is a great thing - depending on what box they gave you there is an up grade coming soon.

we got boxes (two different rooms) that are rounded off at the top and have smart cards installed in the front, a small red/green light, and small tvguide/back buttons and a small silver button that were unsure of it's purpose, plus four other flat buttons (similar to the older boxes, in the up/down/left/right positions in a circle)

my mum was told they are the newest ones out, wether their the "new" ones or not is annother story altogether.

There are 2 types of boxes UEC and Pace

They are going to upgrade the software on the UEC soon to make the EPG a bit easier to use.

The Pace has already been upgraded.

The upgrades are done automaticly althoughly I know how to do them manually.
