Looks like I was overreacting, that's far more understandable than starting at the back of the whole grid.

And way too dangerous. Hope the stewards make another decision and place it at the back of the Hypercar batch (as they do in case of SC).

Interesting moment where the world decides something that wasn’t going to happen there.

***Ferrari’s global head of endurance Antonello Coletta is hoping that tire warm-up doesn’t play a disproportionate role in deciding the outcome of this year’s Le Mans, which is set to feature relatively cool temperatures, with tire warmers now outlawed.

***Coletta also made a veiled reference to Porsche’s apparent ability to switch on its tires more quickly than the competition. He told assembled media: “It will be very important for the sporting authorities to check the temperatures of the tires when they are mounted on the cars. In past races we have already seen that someone has been very good at having warmer tires and on a track like this, where we lose over 15 seconds on the out lap with cold tires, it would be unacceptable not to have control.

***He added: “Having a rule and not controlling it wouldn’t make much sense, especially if it determines performance and a very important difference in times. Losing 15 seconds in a lap is practically impossible to then recover it in a stint, and I wouldn’t want Le Mans to be decided by the warm-up of tires at night or in other difficult situations.”

This isn't really the reality. What Colletta doesn't mention is that Ferrari triple stinted their tires in Imola, when Porsche could not, saving a tire change in the pits compared to Porsche. Thus recouping any benefit Porsche might have at the beginning of the stints.

The Ferrari has better tire degradation than the Porsche and it's linked to the tire temperature they are able to maintain. The Ferrari keeps it's tires cooler. This is good for double and triple stinting as the tires wear less. The trait means it takes longer to warmup up, but they get paid back over multiple stints when they change fewer tires.

The Porsche is the opposite. They can't keep the heat out of the tire. It's a peaky car. While this exessive tire heating helps them when they are on cold tires to fire it up, it hurts them over the long runs where they wear out more, lose pace during the stint, and have to take more sets of tires in the pit stop.

So these effects balance out actually. What Ferrari might lose on warmup, they gain back by doing fewer tire changes.

#7 shown as not having turned a lap yet, is it serving some sort of penalty?

Kobayashi did have a fairly dramatic bounce through the gravel. They need extra time to check the cover over, remove gravel, and maybe even replace the floor.

Additional penalties following qualifying.

#51 & #83; 10 seconds added to first pit stop in the race for not correctly stopping the cars in their dedicated stopping areas in the pitlane.

They had a 5 minute stop and go penalty for speeding under FCY in FP1.

Does anyone know what the penalty will be in the race for excessive track limit infringements? Is it 5 minute stop and hold?

It's at the stewards discretion. Usually warnings, followed by drive through, then stop/go, then stop/go with holds. Ultimate penalty available is exclusion.

Team plays down their chances shocker. Toyota at it again. Oh wait it’s Ferrari. I’m confused.

Evolution of Top Speeds including qualifying.

Alpine made a huge jump for qualifying. +4km/h compared to the prior sessions. Ferrari also made a noteable jump, around +3km/h compared to the practice and test sessions.
