No, this deal's been in the pipeline for a while.

The three not signed were the BTC and Speedworks loan TBLs which have now been returned, and the final CBM TBL.

Except that is not what was claimed at the time:

You are assuming every word in a press release is true though. The Collard deal has probably been penciled in for a long time, but some factors needed to be settled prior to formally signing the deal

HARD are being unusually quiet aren't they? Normally their seats are all signed early on or it's being hyped up with #GAMECHANGER posts every other day. Perhaps there was a deal that fell through. Or perhaps they've got no takers for the Cupra!

I saw a couple of videos on youtube from drivers / teams saying the hybrid kit didnt work all that well. Seems to be odd that they have been testing it for over a year, but the teams only now are having problems (publicly at least). Did the teams only recently get their hands on the kit?

Wasn't #gamechanger when the CC was first launched? Don't remember seeing it much since, it's good that you remembered it though.

In answer to the last part - yes.

From 29 March - 'it was distributed to all BTCC teams in recent weeks' and 'all teams were in attendance, with the majority running the hybrid system during the day, while some are still in the process of completing the installation across all of their cars.'

Well we do sort of have a Kia engine now - the Hyundai i30N unit is also used in some Kias....

It’s not looking promising for a faultless start to the season in 16 days is it?

Nobody should have been given the kit until there was enough for every car. As it stands there’s going to be some who have a definite advantage.

I think every team received at least one set of hybrid kit before they all tested, so there is a fair starting point for gathering data.
In terms of the non-hybrid cars within the teams, in theory they could add ballast to simulate the weight of the hybrid kit and gain other setup data - so it's not a totally uneven playing field.

the kits were available to all the teams at the same time once they paid for them so nobody had a head start on anyone

As the S2000 teams found out in 2011, a sudden increase in the amount of wheel torque can play havok with the car handling. I think WSR were the team most affected when they fitted the turbo engine to their 320. Massively different torque curve and different diff required etc, not that simple, or not the simple change some thought. I don’t think this will be as pronounced a change though.
