That's sad to hear he's joined that bandwagon of misinformation.

I had to mute him, I was getting tired of it. He was constantly whinging during the non spectator days because he couldn't get fans in to pay for his hospitality and his drive. Then when a solution is found to get back to normal, he's moaning about that too.

Latest summary of where we are, with just one seat still to be announced.
Plato was confirmed at BTC Racing. It seems like he has brought the Adrian Flux sponsorship with him, so we wait to see if the team will have a new title sponsor, or possibly a 'split' team. He also confirmed that it will be his last season in BTCC. Collard was confirmed in at Toyota Gazoo Racing. Ash Hand was confirmed at PMR, and makes it another entry for the JST. HARD. confirmed the final allocations of their title sponsorship deals. We still wait to find out who their final driver is. Senna Proctor confirmed he is taking a sabbatical. |

When the anti-vax David Reynolds heard he was about to lose his drive in Aus Supercars, all of a sudden off to the vaccination centre he went... Like magic, is views had changed 'over night', amazing how motivating that can be.

So with just two days until media day, when will we find out the new rules regarding the hybrid system's new version of success ballast?

We know it is available for 15 seconds per lap, except for those being handicapped. We know that the amount of time it is available is reduced under the handicap system. We know that the reduction in time replaces the previous ballast system. The only unknowns are how many drivers will be handicapped, and what the step between each handicap place will be. Unless I'm missing something? |

I'm not aware of the amounts of boost available being published so far (for 'success ballast') but Dan has commented on his video,

So judging by that, either the boost doesn't make enough difference to be worthwhile, or the driver with 0 boost is dropping to last place?

I wasn't aware of the breakdown of the boost, but that's kinda what I thought. 14 seconds of boost though is a lot, can that could be outputted every lap? Has it been published what the output of the hybrid kit actually is, 30bhp, 50bhp?

Cosworth's motorsport programme manager, Tom Brown:
"At the request of series organisers TOCA, the aim is to give the driver enough extra boost per lap to enable him to catch a rival on a long straight, or defend his position, but not so much that he'll easily overtake. That's how we came up with the figure of 40bhp for 15 seconds." |

Working to that target, it seems like they have managed to get 50hp out of the install (although electronics could limit this). More detail on the eventual solution has been published by Cosworth since: 'We decided that we wanted the system to allow the driver to gain 15 metres in one single deployment per lap,” explains Clive Dopson, chair of TOCA’s engine technical review panel. “If you analyse the data from the various circuits that the series visits you can look at the maximum time on wide open throttle. Looking at the worst-case circuits, that would require a 30 kW (40 bhp) boost for 15 seconds.' 'The P2 off-axis electric motor is connected to the powertrain through a gearbox and is used to deploy and regenerate energy stored in the battery pack. The unit is managed by a dedicated motor controller package and is capable of producing 50hp peak power.' One thing I note is that judging what 15 metres gain looks like in terms of lap time. So for comparison, three 2021 qualifying times: Oulton Park Island - Sutton and Cook were 1&3 going into the meeting. If you overlay their qualifying with the pole sitter (Proctor), then Sutton (10th) was 13.5 metres back and Cook (13th) was 22.5 metres back. Thruxton (2) - Sutton and Ingram were 1&2 going into the meeting. If you overlay their qualifying with the pole sitter (Rowbottom), then Sutton (7th) was 17.1 metres back and Ingram (12th) was 29 metres back. BH GP - Sutton and Turkington were 1&2 going into the meeting. If you overlay their qualifying with the pole sitter (Proctor), then Sutton (6th) was 6.3 metres back and Turkington (8th) was 7.4 metres back. Based on last season's qualifying with ballast, 15 metres in a lap seems about right. |
