For only the 2nd time in 33 years of this caper withdrew from today's clubbie meeting at Prescott.
Car is there ready to go but the weather is evil. We actually set off this morning in the pouring rain, but 1/2 way there turned round much to Mrs hillclimber's relief. Tomorrow will be on though, Championship day and in the game for all of 2 points as I'm alone in the class. Nothing is good about a wet day hillclimbing, nowhere to escape the rain. Forcast is far better for Sunday, well, most of it anyway... |

Worse!
These cars on slicks are tricky for those with limited talent (me). Today was to be a fun day, nice little clubbie on a great twisty hill. 37 drivers dropped out yesterday (!), prob all because of the rain. No point risking the car today. Tomorrow is the same, but even if I crawl up I will get 2 points to my tally towards a class win this year, my principle goal. |

Sunday, and Championship day. Looking for more points, but with me only in the class i could only get 1 point for each run as long as i got to the top.
I find this single runner situation all a bit boring, but 2 points could be good at the end of the year. The first of 2 practice runs was awful, and all because i left the winch loop still on the car complete with a nice big D shackle. After the start i heard a huge BANG under the front near side floot which got worse then stopped and then returned. Crept up the hill and back down to the paddock where i found the winch loop still around the nearside front wishbone and the bolt missing out of the shackle. Had to get the car re-scrutineered as a result, so stupid, but nothing serious. Tut tut. Second practice was good and strong, everything worked well but only 48.08 (pb is 44.15). Both race runs were strong, but again a bit disappointing, thought I had gone quite fast but miles and miles off. 46.32 and 45.92 and both starts 2.16/2.15. However, nice rain free day, sunny and a light breeze and all back in one clean piece. Selsley Walsh next, BUT I may not have an entry, a long story, but the chances of an entry are slim for a variety of contentious reasons. Not just me maybe, but several front runners have no entries, just a reserve number. Time will tell, meeting is 3 weeks away. |

Tut tut as you say, Graham! Is the towing part what we can see on the pics, I thought it was something like a pitot tube? All my best for Selsley Walsh, no doubt you'll get an entry at least in the Star category! Almots 900 k views in the best motorsport forum will help for sure.

Yes, the tow loop is threadded round the front of the lower wishbone, with a nice fat D shackle and the winch hook goes onto the shackle and then i power winch the car onto the trailer.
I left it on because my routine is usually to remove the front body nose to allow the scrutineers to have a look at the suspension, brake cylinders etc. They arrived early! Thus the front was left on and they left happy and I had my sticker. Clean forgot about the tow loop. Only been doing it this way for 12 years...(age). As I ascended the hill the shackle would hit the track and bounce up to the underside of the aluminium tub. Sure was a loud thud, and again, and then again and the quiet, then again! Bet we will never forget in the future! Hope i do get in at Shelsley. Usually a big class of faster cars, so the challenge i need. Maybe I'm not fast enough to be included! |

Finals for Shelsley Walsh arrived yesterday, pleased to see we have an entry confirmed.
Lot of speculation about entried in the paddock last weekend, so pleased all is ok for us! The Championship is now over the 1/2 way mark with 4 more events to run, and some drop scores to be taken before the end of the season. Doing well so far with the usual strategy of Always Turn Up. We have in the class 3 runners, Mike Luck in the Zolfe, George in the Cossie Escort and us. We have a lead, 42 points, George on 8 and Mike on 5. At the upcoming Shelsley, just Mike and I in the Midland, but 5 in the class (meeting is Midland and British Championships). If I can keep Mike behind me on both runs I'll be pleased. 2nd in class will be the best I'll achieve as the Norma is entered too. Found out the huge Pilbeam sports racer with the 7 litre big block chevy engine and sequential box is in the class, but also up for sale. |

Told you all wrong!
There is the SBR Crono in the class, so best will be 3rd. Monster of a car: https://le-cdn.website-editor.net/cf...1547_-960w.jpg |

It has been to Shelsley before and is stupendously fast. Based on an AUDI R8 (I think) and originally built by Dyalinx (I think)
Driver is also fearless.... Only the NORMA could chase it. About a 27 second climb. |

Keith 'Dialynx' used to hillclimb in my class.
He has built some very strong cars. The Chronos is a very large car, fills the track at Shelsley Walsh, but a lovely thing. |

The finals for the end of month Loton event have arrived, the class is 5 strong, the Norma topping it, Mike is back too.
Good chance to get some good points. 10 days to the big Shelsley Walsh event where points may be a bit thin on the ground, you need some good bhp for that hill, 310 is not really enough. 4 events to go now, soon be over!! |

Just delivered the Lola to our 'garage' at Shelsley Walsh.
This is such an enchanting venue, full of atmosphere even before the colour of all the race cars arrive. Full house meeting, all reservists are 'in' so everyone is happy. I hope to bag a third on each run on Sunday which will give me 8 points more. Mike in the Zonda, my one and only competitor in my class in the Midland Championship could sneak in though as rian is expected on Sunday, but we shall see! Have just ordered fresh slicks for next near while stocks are available. AVON close down at Xmas. No tyres at all from them. Bleak for all the classic race cars as well as the moderns. |

Saturday, and the day 's wether was good(!).
3 practice runs were on the table. First one was good... Second one was even better, a change of gear on the track gave a good benefit and a few tens off my PB.... However... Coming down the hill the gears (any of them) were hard to get and some serious teeth crunching was not good. I suspected the clutch is iffy a few meetings ago, but all worked. Third practice run and the clutch (I hope it is) gave up and all was lost on the start line. I also hoped I had a spae /old driven plate from my 911, only about 20 years old, but alas i must have thrown it away. We had bout the car and tools home expecting a night clutch change, but no, all is lost. My class mate also could be in truble and might not run either tomorrow. New (heavy duty) clutch plate will be on order this Monday, just a few hours to replace, so will be good for Loton on 26/27 Aug. In 32 years of this game I've only had a car break on the hills 3 times, so this is not too bad. Will spectate, enjoy a cold beer and a big ice cream tomorrow! |
