Many, many thanks for that, it will be very interesting to see what comes up from the thread you have started, great stuff, I dont understand the logic of taking a BT30 over in 74/5, BT35 in '73 yes, but an old 30 two years later? Very odd!

This car should have CASC plate 512 on it somewhere - it was known in Colorado club racing in 1988 but that's as far back as I go on it.

If Brian Robertson's been as good in keeping his Brabham records as he was with Ralts we're in for a tough time. I'd suggest that we're better off pestering Opert to open his vaults for USA sales and doing the Canadians by a process of elimination!

My name is Kent Copeland and I purchased Bobby Brown's BT35-10 last Saturday. I should take delivery around the first week in December. Thanks for the support. Yes, based on the log book which I have that was started by Mr. Costey, it is the Colorado car that (although I didn't see the Ad) was apparently in E-bay. The log book starts on 4/16/1988 with the first entry. Bobby did show me the location of the CASC number plate. Being a newbie to Brabhams, etc., I can only assume that the car was originally a Canadian car from the Brabham distributor (Opert) referred to in earlier postings. Finally, I guess it is improbable that I can find out the missing history on the car, without talking to Mr. Opert. If I'm wrong or have the history twisted, please let me know.

Any chance you can contact Mr. Costey , and find out how long he had it and where the car came from to him.
Going backwards sometimes ends up with going forward in the search for history.

It would be great if you can get some help from Mr Opert. However, I do have a theory about chassis 10.
Given the known delivery dates for chassis 8 and 9 to Reeves and Craw I think that 10 might well be another Opert car for May 1971. Brian Robertson uses two cars in the 71 season, one of which is known [chassis 18] going in 1972 to Bill Eagles, and the other [which isn't known] goes in 1972 to Canadian driver Al Justasson.
Basically if Opert can't help you probably need to try and trace the following Canadian drivers:
Al Justasson [his car also owned by a Canadian called Fred Beyer 1974-75
Maurice McCaig [his car also owned by a Canadian called Hugh Cree 1973 - 74]
Roy Folland

The only early season BT35s are the Opert cars, McCaig's and Folland's [both in Canada and new]

With the wonderful assistance of all here and a great deal of research time I was able to bring together the history of my chassis #18 just last year. You can do it also. Contact me directly (off list) and I will email to you my compiled history and also old photos of your car. Perhaps you can fill in around the edges as Peter suggests.

Chassis BT35/47 -

Further to my posts a few months ago, I am pleased to report that the car is about 75% completed, with mostly re-assembly to do, and painting. The BDA and gearbox have been fitted. It is planned to make its first appearence at the annual practice day at the Harewood Speed Hillclimb, near Leeds in the UK, on march 25th, 2007 (www.harewoodhill.co.uk), where it will be sharing a class with a well known BT30.
If all goes well, we will use the car at every meeting, and in particular at the Harewood Historic event on 2nd. June.

I am still stuggling to find any history on the late-chassis Jolly Club F3 cars. Any assistance in this respect would be most welcome.

Original configuration

Guys,

I received the car on Wednesday nite and of course started it, inspection, learning the car, etc. The car definitely has a high "WOW" factor with motorheads/friends. Anyway, what information is there relative to the original configuration? I know the Brabham register has some info listed, but do you guys have original factory photos, etc. that you could E-mail? Also, after reviewing the limited info on the Matthew Collection website with respect to the BT-35 history, it says that there were only 3 "A" models built primarily for US SCCA racing, and that they can be distinguished by inboard rear brakes. Well, my chassis number is 10 (with no letter A, B, or C designation) and I have inboard rear brakes, so what's the deal? My E-mail is: kcopeland@oceaneering.com.

Nice to hear things are goin well, I am sorry I don't have some better photos of Bryans' car #8. That's his brother Kevin in the back ground. Photo taken at the recent Tasman Revival.

IIRC, Frank Costey had put an ad for the car in the "Cars for sale" section of the nvo.com website, long before it was advertised for sale on Ebay by various dealers. Check it out it might still be there with some contact details.
From memory, a few things were not exactly correct on the car:
- a big modern single post rear wing,
- a rear located oil tank instead of the front mounted one,
- some modifications to the front of the chassis and, IIRC, the water radiator and its brackets,
- I think also some extra tubes were added around the dashboard (small roll hoop) or somewhere else on the front of the chassis.
I would have to check again the pictures I had seen at the time to confirm the above.

Strom had his car from 1972 until late 1975 when he bought a Chevron B29 from Opert. As all the other American private owners of BT35s seem to have kept their cars for at least two seasons, or those cars have known chains of ownership [even if we don't know the chassis no] I'm guessing that Strom's Brabham also came from Opert

Smith has chassis 31 for sale Sept 77. Did John Hafkensheil buy it then?
