Interesting that the Audi present at the Portimao goodyear tests was Audis own car and that Sainteloc were just providing technical support.

Non WEC GT3 brands excluded from LM and ELMS:
https://www.dailysportscar.com/2023/...yOgEiD35BG4JAM The series sure has a talent for alienating their core fanbase. How hard can it be to add a 10th car to the BPO round-and-round? There's plenty of data and if that weren't enough (in case of updated models for instance), there is always the option of having LM24 auto invites run a pre LM race in either WEC or ELMS. And expect Asian LMS to go a similar route next season. Last edited by Coach Ep; 7 Nov 2023 at 13:26. |

I could understand LM, ok you aren't in the main show why get the big race one off. Fair enough, and it is the BIG show. BUT, ELMS??? Are they really in a place to make that same rule work?
We get what 18 entries so assuming 2 per that's 9. Folks are gonna be left out and you've now forced them to IMSA or SRO and IMSA wouldn't have the Bronze perk of LM cause you're in the wrong car. Seems to be squarely at MB and McLaren to build our rules or take your toys. There are enough other series that MB could still make plenty and be elsewhere. But they would have a GREAT argument about why Ford and not them. MB, McLaren, Nissan, Bentley have all made GT3 cars from before Ford came and after they left and sold them. Why let the flavor of the month pop in and out with a car that's not really available even in the Ecoboost models for most stops on the WEC?? |

ELMS is heavily oversubscribed as well so not many spots for GTs there either, perhaps 10-12. Those can easily be filled with 1 or 2 cars each from most of the WEC GT entrants (Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Lambo, Aston and possibly Ford, McLaren, Corvette. Not expecting Lexus).
Nevertheless, it's another step towards eliminating diversity. And IMSA is oversubscribed as well. If MB and Audi want in, they'll have to start exploring a Hypercar program (Audi could take the dust of their stillborn LMDh if the board decides to make an U-turn on their F1 ambitions). Of course, WEC/ACO could just try a bit harder to expand their grids (both WEC and ELMS) to accommodate more cars/manufacturers. The WEC grid needs to be expanded for 2025 anyway. |

Very short sighted decision. We’ve always loved seeing teams having a one off at LM. This is not going to be very popular

I agree this makes no sense. You could perfectly use ELMS rounds to create a BoP for non WEC cars. Furthermore, GT3 is a BoP class which means there is plenty of data regarding the performance of ANY GT3 homologated car as soon as it hits the ground running.

agree on bad decision - why go GT3 and then restrict ELMS entries especially or restrict LM entries. What better way to draw more manufacturers into WEC/LM?
