Content was the single reason Liberty bought F1 but in this case uncertainty is an issue. Looking at YT it appears that all the teams must have active channels on YT or they are choosing to, Williams being the latest. Personally I don't see it but I am not Kerry Stokes or Channel 9. They all have multi channel set ups now and they need something to broadcast. The single biggest difference between the two is that F1 totally ignored social media and relied on TV while SC already has an extensive social media reach so why would they buy it when FTA is dying.

interesting speculation ....
Latest speculation from Speedcafe:
https://www.speedcafe.com/2021/08/29...ory-ownership/ 'Supercars teams may soon release their collective shareholding in the category as a sale process comes to a head.' As the current financial arrangement was the source of substantial income to the teams, it kept them interested, yet still licence holders threw their licence back. |

If the plan as per the news sites is to achieve $60m to Archer Capital and friends for the aggregated 65%, it would mean at the same rates, it makes for around $32.3m for the 25 RECs currently out in the field.. or ~$1.3m per REC, returned to owners...
A nice cash profit for some, a potential loss for others... and absolute destruction of team owners' skin in the game, and any input into the category... The REC (and its predecessor the franchise licence slot) was originally designed to enforce teams showing up to EVERY event, in return for a piece of the revenue pie.. Unless the equivalent of the REC income shows up each year in some form or other.. some teams will definitely be forced to contemplate whether they can afford to continue in their current form... This.. plus the nonsensical stories around GEN3,.. are not particularly stabilising for the sale... |

The problem is the teams control over the series has paralysed it from making good decisions that would benefit the greater good. You just cannot get that many people to agree.

Their influence on the directors of the trading business who should be effecting their role with the power and support of the board, of which Archer Capital represents 65% control so should therefore execute management control as well, suggests the CEO powerbase is not intact The benevolent dictator formerly in residence would have corralled the troops with Golden Handcuffs and not allowed this stuff to go on I mean seriously, discovering that the engine shops at Grove, Tickford, Walkinshaws are now out of a job because the CEO somehow got a plan of single source per manufacturer from the board suggests that policy is perhaps being made on the fly... Junking almost 30 years worth of hardware in that scenario alone looks like shooting themselves in the foot. If anyone can figure out the start date of Gen3.... or Bathurst... or the next round... or any other date in the calendar |

That was always going to happen and further change could be the death of current Gen3 chassis development as well. I would go so far as to say it is more likely Gen3 will be still born than see the light of day but it would make a good base for a sports sedan with about 1000HP and a proper diff. I could see a good class using it as a SS base with more freedom to innovate and let's go racing. The freedom to innovate must be there, anyone living in the past holding the present rule book need not apply.

Without 'skin in the game' why will all teams front up at every round ?

Wouldn't it make sense to have an appearance fee with a substantial bonus payment for attending all rounds? Something like $20,000 per round and a bonus $250,000 at the end of the season for doing all rounds.

The Australian is reporting:
The contest for the V8 Supercars business is understood to have narrowed to one .... The Australian Racing Group consortium and the TGI Sport consortium have joined forces to form one proposal after earlier competing with each other for the business, which is up for sale through Miles Advisory. ARG is owned by Brian Boyd and John McMellan from Payce Property, along with well-known racing identities Garry and Barry Rogers. The TGI Sport consortium also includes TLA Worldwide, run by Craig Kelly and Mark Skaife. Funding the offer is TGI’s US-based owner Bruin Sports Capital. https://www.theaustralian.com.au/bus...3c3d06a0d05add Last edited by cavvy; 31 Aug 2021 at 03:51. Reason: Typo |

When the original RECs were handed out, IIRC teams paid a token $10K when they were created in 1997 as franchises. But since then there have been multiple restructures, with the difference Level 1 and 2 franchises disappearing, and IMG coming and going.
When Archer bought in in 2011, it was reported as a 60/40 split, now it is reported as 65/35, so perhaps Archer have elected to or been obliged to buy out teams as they left the series. |
