The STIG should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I like to listen to the radio whilst flagging, gives me a better sense of what's going on, but I prefer to listen to the commentary when spectating.

Agreed on that one, and I only take the scanner when "spectating" at one of the DMN rounds. I don't usually see much of the racing though.

STIG/Chezza,
find your comments interesting re following the race, etc.Perhaps I should explain that I have a disability which limits my mobility and its not always possible to hear the race commentary clearly, and, as I am sure those of you who have visited Snetterton will know the circuit is not totally "in sight "from the commentary box , so if something occurs at Sears or the Norwich Straight,Esses or Bombhole the normally excellent commentators cannot tell you about it!
So, if something (like a stoppage)does occur, and you are in the disabled viewing area,it can be some time before we "catch up "with the race situation.Anyway, its good to have other peoples views, but you will understand that I do not want to fall foul of officialdom!
Regards to all for a safe and Happy New Year.

Regards to all,
Carrotcruncher.
i`ve never had a problem with using a scanner.
the general rule is it is used soley to listen to what is going on and not to be acted up on.
Thats the job of the i/o or pc to give the order.

i was told that either acting up/or passing on information from a scanner is deemed illegal.
i think it comes under privacy laws.

but if anyone knows any different, please feel free to advise..

btw

Happy New Year & joyus celebrations for tonight

Obviously there is nothing to stop you listening in to the race communications, however be aware that not all posts at snetterton use radio comms, telephones are used, with which a scanner will not help.

Yes it can be helpful to know if there has been a stoppage. You just have to be careful about repeating what you hear over the radio in spectator areas. Remember if someone is seriously injured and you blurt that out and the drivers family/friends are nearby, it can do more harm than good.

I have no problem with them, in fact a couple of times I have heard on them 'Release the cars to track' so where as you shouldn't rely on them, some times they give you a heads up!!!

Also, I watched the ALMS at Silverstone, found it very handy to know what was going on, as some of the circuit had no pa system

Another use for scanners .....pickup trucks and ASCAR's have spotter/crewchief to driver comms on the frequencies a scanner covers.

Thought I'd never get one as it seemed to me a bit like watching the action on a big screen and missing what was happening in front of you----but at this price-ordered mine today--doh!!

For most circuits it's the MSA-standard 169.3375 MHz. Where there is more than one channel in operation, this is the frequency used by the Rescue Unit(s). Happy eavesdropping!

Have a look at here

Most of frequencies used by each circuit is listed on here.

Or just type "scanner frequencies" into the search engine on here & have a look through the previous threads on the subject.
