Lancsbreaker has a real shot at the podium!Lancsbreaker has a real shot at the podium!Lancsbreaker has a real shot at the podium!Lancsbreaker has a real shot at the podium!
I've been a bit absent over the last week or so after losing my "big sis" to the dreaded C, but as I suspect you know, Bauble, I can usually be relied to comment whenever you feature one of my beloved Alfas - as in #261.......

But if we all commented on every post it would get a bit sycophantic, don't you think?

But please do keep on trawling your archives and educating us / giving people chance to show their erudition

Sorry to hear about your sister, Lancs. vey sad to lose someone close, I'll put in a good word for you both tonight.

NO I do not want a paean of praise, every time I post, an occasional acknowledgement that people are enjoying the content is quite enough, I do need a little encouragement, as it is time consuming to sort through archives, and post the pictures. There is no gain for me in showing the pictures, I'm not selling anything, so why do it?

So just for you.

There was something especially interesting in the 2005 to 2015 ish period of Historics that seems to have been eliminated somewhat in the current era.

Nice shots Baub.

As for the comments a few days back by "Barney", clearly the images presented should have been referenced and B&W but colourised shots from back in the day when cameras and the film they used were an entirely different proposition when compared to the modern era.

Thanks for #279, Bob - pity Silverstone gives such an "industrial" background - oh and for the avoidance its fairly likely that I hadn't just blasted past the 911......

And then you go and include both Imp (my other love) and Alfa in one group in #284 - though I have to say that the Alfa looks "over-wheeled"......

Probably "standard" sized wheels, Richard.

The body shell, however, may have been "reduced".

Was it because people were "having fun" instead of "being seen"?

Probably that Max. Also the variety of cars that seems to be absent these days - even at Goodwood.

That was probably part of the "having fun" factor.

I have to say it got me as well Max.
(Mind you I did last week get a reminder from Specsavers that my annual eye test was now 2 years overdue!)

But as you say, racing porn is totally acceptable.

I must confess to Bobs photos and their variety being a lot to do with my ever decreasing lack of interest in modern racing stuff these days. I cant remember the last modern race meeting I went to. Well I can, but I also remember the main reason I went was a complementary ticket in a corporate suite along with a taxi voucher home.

I just love the variety of pics by Bob (and all the contributors). Where else am I going to in the same photo see a 2CV racing alongside a Frazer Nash, or a Mk 16 (I think) Mallock racing a Pre-war something or other. Followed up by Vanguards, Gaz Volgas, Peugeot 203s, Imps, and all sorts of things we dont ever even see down in my part of the world. Plus many I dont have a clue what they are.

Having them put here I and others do appreciate, Bob, even if appreciated in silence. Covid Lockdowns were made almost pleasant by our regular pic fixes, even if unmentioned. Im sure we all appreciate the improvements a bit of automotive porn made to our wellbeing in those days.

Things were quieter here and my visits less frequent when Bob had a little break. And the sometimes grumpy humour makes me smile.

That and of course the photographic wizardry shown in such arduous settings as a wet cold Silverstone have probably stunned most into complete silence.

Long may it continue.

Appreciative
Melbourne

Re the last set, from the HSCC meeting;
The silver XK120 was driven by Barrie Williams, and the dramatic angles were all beautifully controlled power slides, Barrie winning comfortably ahead of all the more modern sports racers. A perfect example of the driver being more important than the machinery. An unforgettable experience, I am so glad I could witness it.
