It made an appearance at Aarhus in September 2021.
I believe the paint scheme is a homage to something important back in the seventies??

The full spec, history and many pictures can be found in this link to an ad. It seems to have more info than the facebook link posted yesterday

Colour scheme seems to be South Africa related but also BP. And Zak-Speed logoed photos from the early 70s pop up when searching with variations on the colour scheme but mostly quite similar.

Mike built Lairy Canary as a tribute to a 1970s Zakspeed RS1600 racecar, as MGDavid said.

... and I thought it was a tribute to Norwich City!

Was it Lairy Canary or was it another of Mike's cars that had fallen into the hands of the Jordan's? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

ISTR that after Nick Whale purchased it Lairy Canary went for a rebuild or overhaul / update at Jordans. Happy to be corrected, but I recall reading something of that ilk..

Edit: I said I had read something. It seems I actually wrote something of what I saw on Andrew Jordans Instagram account

From the Thruxton Historic 2021 thread here at tenths is what I posted then

The fact that it was in Norwich City colours was a happy coincidence.

Nick Whale bought Lairy at the CCA auction when we sold Mike’s collection & sent it to Jordan Motorsport who completely rebuilt it, I have no idea why, as it certainly didn’t need it ?*??

My thoughts exactly! I suppose they thought they had to put their mark on it - wonder how much they 'improved' the performance?

For the same reason we rebuild any kart that comes to us: if our name is going on it we want to know it's right.

I seem to have a vague recollection of Mike mentioning that the car came to him via South Africa.

That said the early versions of the yellow and green color scheme with Zakspeed logo's applied may also have had some BP connections.

Presumably the rebuild including a new roll cage was all a matter of advancing safety ... and maybe finding a little extra stiffness? And whatever else one might be able to improve after some years of racing.

It often does that depending if the original photo was taken with a phone in portrait or landscape that the orientation device has read it wrong. Even if you turn it the right way up on your phone or PC the original URL will often make it go back when it is uploaded. If you rename the photo it "normally" cures it

I suspect you are right Max, also Mike built Lairy as a faithful reproduction over 10 years beforehand, which would not be up to Jordan Motorsport’s current spec

Wasn't there a problem with Canary's engine which prevented Mike from racing it in recent years ?

Exactly that!

Mike was a bit wary of using it as it was approaching the number of hours at which it was recommended to have a refresh, although there was nothing wrong with it.

Fifty may be. Knowing that some components have a limited time of running, like exotic conrods, its not only a matter of replacing the bearings. May be I'm wrong, but it seems that when you go beyond the 8 K mark, things change. A good pre-heating system is great value for money.
