61 cars is going to cause a very chaotic race thats for sure, but theres plenty of room at Daytona, so with some common sense driving I hope it can be handled well enough to avoid heavy hits from the yellow! |

Reliability was much worse back then, so things tended to become a bit more managable relatively quickly.

At the equation add +8 useless lmp3 that will be moving chicanes for 24 hours, for faster GTD cars as well. I would prefer much more a smaller grid but with all those dpi lost in the way... |

Already some BOP changes vs last year:
https://sportscar365.com/imsa/iwsc/i...s-daytona-bop/ Right now both GT classes will use the same BOP, but IMSA could change that if they decide. |

Interesting... I was aware that C8R was going to be >1300kg heavy because of engine displacement but that restrictors cut is huge, considering that GTLM and GT3 were already in a comparable range of power. It's not only about loss of top/final power... out of handling reasons, C8R engine was tuned to have a more homogeneous power output delivering less torque than old models configuration... you can tell that by the fact it has a revlimit set to 7400rpm while in C6R and C7R it barely was reaching 6500rpm. Less power, less torque, a bit of less aero, no confidential michelins and more weight... IMSA isn't making things easy for P&M at all.
M4 gt3 turbo pressure range is hilarious... in recent sportscars motorsport I think only 919/TS050 engines and DTM/SGT NRE spec engines were reaching turbo boost close or over 2.5bar... "little" difference is those were bespoke racing designed engines... |

What a shame that Audi isn't represented either in GTD PRO and/or GTD. I wonder what has become of the NTE Sport R8 which ran last year?

Apparently Audi North America is not particularily interested in/supportive of motorsports. I've been reading stories about the mothership in Germany pushing for more programs in the US only to be blocked by Audi NA who won't fund said programs at least since Audi's pullout from the ALMS.

Pretty much what's happened since 2008. Audi of America would rather do product placement and stick and ball sponsorships than support motorsports in NA. That's actually what lead to Audi Sport pulling out of the ALMS, due to Audi in Germany wanting Audi NA to provide more funding for the ALMS post 2008.

Looks like much of the same for them in 2022. Contesting Daytona, then committing to the rest of the GT4 America season -> http://www.bimmerworldracing.com/events.html |

Yup, think some of the drivers like SRO regs better and James goes where he can get the programs funded. They've done both IMSA and SCCA/SRO programs in the past. Sucks not seeing them at the track, he used to park the race hauler by my apartment in Blacksburg and I bought my old Firebird from his roommate.

Looks to be supply chain issues for Audi at the end of the day. Although the article is really about the Dubai 24h, you can definitely draw some merit in concluding that Audi's issues could have influenced the regular IMSA Audi teams like CarBahn and NTE to look elsewhere if the really wanted to upgrade. "[Chris] Reinke said the German manufacturer’s Evo II package, which completed several test races last year, was not made available to teams in Dubai because Audi did not have enough parts accessible to supply “all customers” worldwide at the same time." |

Sucks that you would be so hard up for the parts you would have to resort to buying an entire new car. That's either really really limited supply or cya blaming supply issues.

"All customers worldwide" measured in GT3 R8 is actually a sizeable number.
If the shortage is real I think it's sensible to assume a backmarker AM team or participating in an offseason event at the Gulf would not be on top of the list. |

General question:
Why do manufacturer projects often have no or only little manufacturer logo's? I mean these Bimmers have a few Motul logo's but no (big) BMW logo's? I assume BMW USA is the biggest backer of this project. |

Some logos work better than others when upscaled all over the livery. BMW – not so much. But they have the signature colours instead. |

Vasser Sullivan brought SealMaster over from Indy since they're looking like only maybe a 500 only program this year
https://racer.com/2022/01/21/longtim...-team-in-imsa/ Not much change to the base livery |
