Interesting the you guys are placing chassis numbers of fairly recent cars here. While the value of an older Gp. A or Gp.C car will probably continue to appreciate as the years go by, does anyone think the current crop of V8SC's will ever actually become collectable and do the same? I personally find that hard to believe.

As for championship 'also-rans' (for want of a better term), probably not so much of an increase. Many of the armada of AU's and VT/VX's built have been seen to fall into this category. Quote:

Was under the impression that Janson was raced in 2008 by Paul Morris.

But for a run of the mill car probably not, I think the laws of supply and demand will sought this out. About 280 V8 Supercars have been built of which 25 are known to have been destroyed so its probably safe to assume that there are 200+ in existence. As mentioned on post #3073 of this thread, the 95 & 97 Bathurst winners are up for auction with indicative prices of $285-345k which is probably not far off what they originally cost to build. |

Newbie
Hi Guys im new to posting on here but have been reading for a while since i msged someone here looking for info on the old chev monzas raced by Brockie. This person convinced me to contribute to this great forum so ill get to the point. The EX Callaghan VL that was raced in 1990 bathurst by Jason Bargs is still alive although i havent seen it for 2 years. It was infact sold to Paul Neilson and raced in sports sedans then on sold to a guy from the Sutherland shire who also raced it for a couple of seasons in Sports sedans it is still in as raced condition and just needs some minor engine work to get it back out there .will try and find some pics of it
cheers Recaro |

Presumably the white shell is DJRBA17, as DJRBA16 was being raced at Homebush by Grant Denyer the day before this ad was posted.

David has had the car for 15 years and it is immaculate. I was chatting to him on the dummy grid at MCM this year. I think it has only has 1 DNF and it very quick. |

Notice that the GIO VL was built in 88, so presumably it is the car built by Perkins Engineering as PE007 to shell and engine stage and then finished by Ron Missen for John Harvey and Kevin Bartlett to race at Bathurst. It was heavily damaged at an Amscar round at Amaroo in 89 and I thought written off but perhaps it was actually rebuilt to become the 2nd car for Bathurst in 90?
Agree $330k does seem high, bearing in mind the 97 Bathurst winner recently sold for $285k. |

I never quite understood how the GIO team ended up with two VLs when they only really ran them for two years. If the car Holc has for sale is the same car that Gibbs bent at Amaroo in '89, then I wonder when it was rebuilt, and did it need a new bodyshell? Was the car that appeared in time for the last '89 ATCC round the rebuilt PE007, or the other 'new' GIO Commodore?
EDIT: In the photos above, the pics with #36 and Nacra Catamaran sponsorship are from the second AMSCAR round in '89 where Gibbs and Colin Bond had the accident in Dunlop Loop. The pics #36 and GIO sponsorship are from the final AMSCAR round of '89. The pic with #21 and GIO sponsorship is from 1990. GTR, are they your own photos? If not, where on earth do you keep finding these? Last edited by William Dale Jr; 15 Dec 2009 at 10:43. |

From the pics above, the #36 car with no GIO signage is the one crashed at Amaroo Park, with the pic at the top the aftermath of the wreck.
The 'other' #36 is the replacement chassis... They were such immaculate cars, I can remember asking what car polish Mr Forbes used on them... they had turtle wax, just like us normal gumbies... Presumably the Missen team rebuilt the 'first' #36 to become #13 in the enduros of 1990... |

This is from Davids ad on another forum
"This car was built new in 1988 by HMS/PE using a HMS race shell and retains the Factory Holden ID plate stamped " VL RACING UNIT ". |

I also know of one that was a customer car from HDT (VK) that has never had any plate affixed to it. And now the one mentioned before being "VL RACING UNIT". I have been told that VK19 means, ...A; It is a HDT ordered part. ...B; It is the model. ie VK Commodore. ...C; It is a base model. ie Executive. Anybody got any ideas? |

Didn't the GIO team run two cars at Bathurst in 1990, when KB got sick ?

Show my bias here but, that's a nice M3 in the background! Obviously it's an ex Mobil car then with Cotter/Doulman on the day the pic was taken.
Re the GIO car, I'll send this link to Mr. Holc so he may confirm or deny the theories. |
