I watch the Your Tube version live and free. I thought it was Ok if the event organisation was not that good.
I was impressed by Alive Powell's commentary on the hill. Not much coverage of the rally stage though. |

It’s a festival. The paddock is amazing. Love wandering around that chatting to people. And the cars aren’t even moving then! The variety is wonderful. Every decade and every type of Motorsport. Circuit, rally, bikes, drift. All sorts in the paddock, going up the hill, demonstrations and displays. Wonderful. Eclectic. It’s not for people who are snobby about their Motorsport. And that is reflected in the timed runs. You could probably pick the order before they go up! So what?! I didn’t go this year. Some friends did and I was miserable the whole weekend. Even if Saturday was rained off. They still got to hang out with Simon Taylor and also visit a nice pub in town. Quote:
Goodwood will do some catch up shows. I’ll watch the timed runs on that (I didn’t watch any Sunday live). I quite like the Smith and Sniff reviews. Be warned might be if road cars and some might be electric. Last edited by Adam43; 17 Jul 2023 at 13:12. |

It was always a problem in previous years (on telly or if there), watch the hill miss out on rally, watch rally miss out on the hill. It’s a little off topic, but what was the organization that wasn’t good? |

Maybe it is a bit of a parade but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all those cars. |

Not everyone has FB, but it’s good they have a simple video to follow everything. Anyway, we are lucky to have the FOS, we do get a good variety of vehicles for people to see |

Indeed, however it's great to see Goodwood using social media and platforms like YouTube, so that people can watch the FOS. |

I typically don't pay much attention to FOS, but it just seems like a large number of crashes and damaged cars? Hyundai concept car going straight off at speed, wheel flying off into the crowd from a vintage Jaguar (torque lug nuts before going on track anyone?) and this morning watched a video of a Porsche have a wobble and knock rear wing off while marshals are not watching the course at all as too busy chatting away.

I watched most of the FOS and it wasn't like that at all. There were a few cars that went off and there always will be a few that go off, due to the nature of the event but certainly not large numbers. |

They tend to do it quite leisurely there. I don’t see many crashes there. Maybe during the timed even you get a few offs, but most of them keep it on the track

Oh and the Jaguar doesn't have "lug nuts" - it has knock-off centre spinners but that wasn't the cause - half shaft broke and the photo I've seen of the wheel departing the car clearly shows the hub etc still in the wheel, so the wheel was attached to the hub properly. Let's not start throwing around accusations of poor preparation when they're not warranted. |

Having endured a so-so day at Goodwood,I am greatly tempted to sit at home and watch the streamed version in future. Its only really the classic cars in the paddock that pulls me back there. It certainly isn't the hours spent in traffic jams trying to get into the car park.

That’s part of the attraction of Goodwood, the access to the paddock and the cars and drivers. Certainly why many people go and continue to go. Just a shame about the weather, but at least it got better on Sunday

My first visit to the FOS was over 20 years ago and although the spectacle of seeing the cars blasting up the hill was enjoyable, I was blown away by the paddock access. Being able to get so close to these very famous cars and to see them being tended to by guys who looked like they were mechanics on them back in the day was quite an experience for me. It also showed to me that I was not alone in enjoying this aspect, as I stood looking at a Lotus F1 car I sensed someone standing close to me in the crowd doing the same thing and when I looked around, saw that this was Emmerson Fittipaldi!

I only went for the first time 2 years ago (as a volunteer steward for all four days). I'd always said no as it's just too close to Le Mans for me but I missed LM in 2021. One of my best memories of 2021 FOS was seeing (and shaking the hand) of Mario Andrettti.....

I’ve never gone, but hope to one day. Everyone I’ve talked to who’s been there says it’s a great event. Might go the revival this year though

I struggle with it. SO big, you really need to be there for days to see it all, quite dear, and the crowds and drive. parking put me off.
I could do a lot more events for the same money and see the cars being driven, ahem better I have read a lot from people saying they go for free, probably the best way as it now seems to cater for a lot of different markets, it used to be just about old race cars and bikes with a little bit of other stuff thrown in. |

Have to say that it’s kinda cool to have Danica at a European race - like what she brings to the discussions / commentary.
