Given the colour and some of the signage, what are the chances that this is a DJR built car?

No mention of who built it in the ad might indicate that this is a possibility (ie: not a Rouse or Eggenberger build)?

Not likely, at the end of 1989 5 Sierras had been built by DJR. DJR1 & DJR2 were owned by Trakstar Racing and raced in the 1989 BTCC by Robb Gravett & Mike Smith. DJR3, DJR4 & DJR5 were still in Australia, the former being raced by Ray Lintott in the 1990 ATCC, the latter 2 by DJR.

I don't think there's anything secret about this car. Brooklyn had entered the British TCC years earlier in Ford Escorts with Chris Hodgetts among the drivers. I think Brooklyn (a Ford Dealer IIRC) either ran or sponsored a rally team from the beginning of the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth period, they knew of the championship and the car and build one that was debuted in late 1988 with Chris Hodgetts driving. Ultimately the combination never really delivered, but it was tough competition out there with Rouse and Trakstar fielding the top cars, with Graham Goode, David Brodie and JQF running second tier cars.

Cool, thanks guys. Interesting the colour would be close to an exact match, and the Dunlop signage is pretty well exactly as DJR had, with the inclusion of some Shell signage (and if my memory works a little, Redkote {Palmer Steel} was the main sponsor for Dick's Euro races?) is a pretty funny co-incidence!



DJ & Bowie's performance at Silverstone TT would have had some locals interested in thew antipodean Sierras, surely?

DJR only made one northern hemisphere appearance, the 88 Silverstone TT. Redkote (a Palmer group company) was the title sponsor. Discussed a bit here: http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...13#post2489813

Did it ever. That's why Gravett ended up buying DJR1 and 2 for the '89 BTCC. The car that DJR ran at Silverstone, DJR3, came straight back to Australia to run as #28 at Bathurst for Gravett and Neville Crichton, although neither ended up getting a drive in the race.

The Brooklyn Motorsport car, as Jesper said, first appeared late in the 1988 BTCC season (the abandoned Birmingham race in late Aug I think)
It was on the TT entry list, but was a no-show in the end, Hodgetts instead racing one of his Toyota Corollas (his own CHMS outfit were still active, although Hodgetts had been driving for other teams)
It showed some promise with a 3rd place behind Rouse and Steve Soper's visiting Eggenberger/Texaco car on it's Donington race debut, but never really lived up to that potential, and was parked, probably due to lack of sponsorship, shortly before the end of the 1989 season. I think it's been in the hands of Brooklyn (a Ford dealer) pretty much ever since.

As William says, Robb Gravett & Mike Smith's new Trakstar outfit bought DJR1 & DJR2 for the 1989 BTCC season- both drivers would have seen Johnsn's TT performance at first hand (Gravett in a Rouse Sierra, Smith in a Prodrive M3) before Gravett was lined up for the 3rd Johnson car at Bathurst

AFAIK, One of the Johnson cars (DJR1 I think) is still in the UK, restored to Johnson colours.

Part 1: As I have learned within the last 24 hours (2010 real time) Robb Gravett was a substitute driver in the second Andy Rouse-Kaliber RS500 during part of the 1988 season and of which Gravett later remarked that there were a "difference" in the 1988 cars - I'm presuming he means that the #21 and #22 Kaliber cars of the 1988 BTCC wasn't running to the same specifications.
Part 2: The fact that Robb Gravett saw the superior speed of the #41 DJR car at the TT compared to the Eggenberger/Rouse cars would makes sence. That Robb Gravett made contacts at the DJR compound makes sence, but how did things develop from there? Within three weeks Robb Gravett sat in the third DJR Sierra at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, Australia.

"The car that had run Silverstone was now numbered 28, the car that had been built new for the 1988 ATCC and hadn't had a biff except for the minor Perkins crunch at Winton, and not even a major rebuild. Car 18 was the 1987 car that hadn't been hurt at all and 17 was brand new for Sandown.................But until news broke about Crichton and Gravett, most assumed car 28 would be used as a mule. So word went around that the new two had done a 'Rent-a-Drive'. This annoyed the hell out of Crichton, the Kiwi multi-millionaire, because, as he claimed later, he was 'roped in' at the last minute when Shell in the UK offered Johnson the money for Gravett to get a drive in the third car........

He (Gravett) had met Johnson for the first time at Silverstone.........used his fast track into Shell UK to apply pressure to (a) buy one or two for the 1989 European season and/or (b) to get a Bathurst drive.As events happened he would succeed in both."

Jesper- one slight correction to Part 1- Gravett didn't drive the Rouse/Kaliber car, but the #10 Rouse-ICS car, after Pete Hall retired from driving early in the BTCC season. He co-drove Lawrence Bristow's Rouse-CAM Shipping car at the TT.
It wouldnt be a great surprise if there were differences in spec between these two cars and the Kaliber cars, as you could possibly regard them as customer cars run by Rouse for clients (although Hall had been Rouse's major sponsor and team-mate for a few years) rather than the Rouse team's main championship challenge

Indeed, although best result was probably Lowndes last to first effort at Clipsal in 99. Last time we heard of it, was in New Zealand as a ride car for Greg Murphy Racing with a 6 litre chev.

That was the car that Janey ordered all the light guage steel and had G.M.H press him up some special light weight panels! and If I remember correct wasnt there more than one body shell with the light weight panels ? Which became the Forbes then Janson and Perkins Bathurst car? I will check that out for my own peice of mind !
I kept thinking that the car I saw most likely wasnt the real deal But gee it was a good replicar though!

So that is your car? I first saw it at the All holden day in Brisbane 2008 I think it was?? I was very impressed! Very good Replicar! Its a credit to you! I love A9X's
