CP 2361's are expensive and need the lugs machining. I know thet are £700 / pr second hand. Then need new seals/pistons maybe if you are unlucky.
Not sure about the balance with the giant Brembos I have either. Unsprung clutches kill synchro boxes don't they? Check out the Fly Porsche 908 models, all faithful to the works/team colours. The red I have is gel coat and is not the best colour. The wheels will be satin black. |

As you did not order new body in a good white or blood red gelcoat it needs to be painted so I personally would paint the car in a similar colour to a 908 but not a faithfull repro as it is not a porker
Silver is great colour static but its "grey" when moving hence why McLaren has the dayglo red on the car If u have £1500 in the budget to paint the car that will cover a good paint job and some stripes in graphics my mate is F1 team painter and can do the car any scheme you want |

I'm not sure if I can live with the Red I have (gel coat but meant to be the finish.) It has not grown on me over the last weeks sorting the body clams out. The front still won't sit down with the rear properly so more hacking this week.
That 1500 will get me several bits, but the body can be left to the death, or even next year. 2009 will be a de-bugging session for a few meetings, so I expect to do about 5 hillclimbs in it this year. Could paint it over Xmas at home. (done several cars in the garage over the years, but I will remember the offer!) Will talk to BG Developments about the brakes tomorrow. The Historic 4 pots do look right over the otheres, just the price and the machining to sort out. Graham. |

i would never take a race car to the track without a proper coat of paint it says a lot about you and the car ie if it looks crepe it is crepe
once you have hacked body away and it is fully fitted with all fastners and it is all tickety boo around wheels exhaust battery cut out roll hoop etc get it painted you will feel better for it and the enthusiasm to finish the car will rise while body is away being painted you can also get on with the other tasks on the car dont forget to add on the 908 tail fins- you might need to fit a wing later for some DF on the car |

I'm sure you are right. Worst still, the wife doesn't like the colour either, so it prob will be silver or Burnt Orange or even white?
Brakes next and all the 'fluid management' pipes next (you can tell I've been to the Autosport Show with these new terms...) Will this ever end? |

with the porker motor its got to head in the 908 colour scheme of some kind
My mate painted my FFord Orange i was after the metalic colour as applied to the Lambo Gaillardo but i was over ruled on cost of the metalic paint he did paint F1 car for me in MB silver looks stunning static |

Porsche did a whole rook of liveries (see attachment above).
Some are very striking, but the best is the Martini colours on silver. Sort of a classic Gulf blue/orange that has been over-done now. There is a Sports 2000 in that scheme and it is not right to my eye. The calipers are a bother at present! |

also what disc do u have sold 10mm or 20 mm vented? martini in silver is poss best livery i agree on gulf but maybe change the combo on colours? ive seen lotus 7 and VD FFord in gulf colours |

Gulf livery is too 'trendy' to my view.

Also, from my reconing they cannot fit my rear due to the 7mm deficiency in the offset. The modern radials are 4567 and break the bank at £272 + the lug-to-radial mounts (which i can make myself). That is nearly 2:1 against the historics on cost. All above + VAT. All seems a bit silly to me. not the same quality, but HiSpecs are £160 each all in (radials). My discs are 20mm vented x 10.5 dia. The offset I have is 1.5'' and the lugs are on 3.5'' crs and 2.5'' from the hub centre line (axis of the drive shaft). All in all, new is too expensive I think. I know I can get some second hand historic but single piston, so will explore that route. They are for the rear after all, and they will ft the uprights. I guess I can get an AP seal kit still. Will the moderators can this thread if we carry-on talking about the engineering of the car? |

All seems a bit silly to me. not the same quality, you get what you pay for fit AP calipres do 3 hour enduro u know the pedal is still going to work but will any other calipre be so durable- why do people fit that damper or calipre or disc of a certain make? it is because it works or hasbetter perfomance reliabilty etc etc etcbut HiSpecs are £160 each all in (radials).My FFord has steel street car2 pot calipres as that is all it needs to slow it down My Gp 6 300 bhp Lola has Girling AR my F2 car has AP cp2361 all top spec in their day - Fit the best calipre the car needs to do its job not what the wife or house keeping budget suggest in 5 meetings time you will be finding out the hard way the chepaer brakes aint doin the job and the wallet will be getting a pounding again also for rears do u need vented on ahillclimb? with twin lug calipre u can fit pair of 2 pot CP2667 type calipres- i have 5 i am about to sell to a March formula car rebuild project seals are easily available i have a drawer full of them im about to sell to AP agent as i dont need 1000 seals- floating disc bells u can have made to suit the offset needed or fit a solid disc and bell to suit |

Thanks for all that detail: I certainly agree about the 'fit quality once' to things like brakes (and clutches).
The Lola originaly had Cortina discs (like FF?), solid discs, iron calipers, £120 each. The vented rears came my way cheap, just the awkward off set (1.5'' instead of 1.25) Manic at work last 2 days, but I need to sit down and draft it all out. I wonder if a Mk 9 solid (inboard) disc will fit the March drive peg patten? The 'bell' on those looks quite shallow though, so even worse off-set. |

A quick update and some questions as ever. Car now has discs in place at the rear (10.5'' vented, AP calipers (awaiting custom brackets), silencers (pity) for muted hillclimbs (needing brackets), body mounted (sod of a job despite being only 2 pieces). Clutch finally sorted (Helix) Spring rates? Rears are currently 550 lb/inch which seems very hard to me, esp for hillclimbing suppleness. The 911 engine is about 40Kg more than the Pinto engine I think (anyone know the weight of the pinto engine?) and the Lola originaly had 250 x 7'' Fr and 300 x 9'' Rr springs. I was thinking of keeping the front as is and increasing the rears to 340/350 lb/inch. Any thoughts? Must get the engine/box into the car all painted etc because the 911 has to come back into the garage for the start of the hillclimb season that kicks-off in early April. Pressure is ON! |

i would opt for the mid range spirngs you have suggested and go up or down in 50lb
Body are you fitting 908 style rear wing side plates? my painter is free to paint the body i have some cars going to him over the next 3 weeks why did you not get that rear upright rechromated black? |

Because the aluminium one can't be chromated..alum one is 'natural' in the pic. Will paint both when I do the detailed final build. Seems the 911 and the Pinto are almost the same weight. |

About 7Kg from what I can find out compared to the Mk 9, but when you pick up the aluminium 915 911 box...well, I can't! Must be more than 7 Kg..
Heavy box, but bomb proof (I hope). If it goes bang, then there is a range of boxes to choose from the Porsche range! (Boxter probably as it is mid engined already) Perhaps I should have bought a radical instead..... Another cold evening in the garage coming up. Are you doing the hills this year Steve? |

You dont want a Radical 911. Your spot on with your choice of spring rates for the rear.Great project keep going i will be out in the cold as well
