From memory, a few things were not exactly correct on the car:
- a big modern single post rear wing,

You're pretty much correct. The single post wing is attached to the transmission via an additional cover using extended tranny cover bolts. I'm not so sure that's a good idea.

Pictures of stock wing and mounting would be appreciated. Know where one is?

Rear oil tank, Dual core water radiator (two units mounted together back to back with crossover between). The rear oil tank, looks to be a one off custom unit. All the oil lines are anodized steel braided lines (~Aeroquip), looks pretty good. Additional roll hoop added to original.

Over time I would like to make it as stock as possible.

By the way, I made contact with Frank and have had a couple of discussions with him already, really nice guy and still wants to help.

It is to take a 1/4'' diameter pip pin , and it needs to fit correctly , we machined up a hexagonal piece of alloy bar stock and fibreglassed it into the main cockpit section as per original , useless just having a pip pin into fibreglass , this then stops the nose from sliding off .
There are also 2 more of these alloy fittings glassed into the top cockpit section , one each side of the body about at the dash panel area to locate into the two pins on the fuel tanks to stop the body splaying out with the wind.
Since I am talking to Yanks , maybe I should have said '' fiberglass'' not fibreglass eh.

Yell out if you require some pics.

One more thing to add, the Continental Series attached brass oval ID tags to the rollbars. Both the 35s mentioned earlier still have theirs in place. On BT35-31 it is 72FB02, and BT35-32 it is 72FB11.

Thanks, on my car, the nose is attached via two Dzus fasteners instead of the pip pin arrangement. That's why I just had a hole.

Re- the BT35 referred to earlier as sold in Barbados to Mike Gill November 72.

From Jimmy Fuller in Antigua 6 December 2006:
JF cannot find any record of the chassis number and does not even recall the exact BT model. He will search further for any papers. He recalls he bought it direct from Brabham and was previously driven by Graham Hill, full F2 spec (suspension, wings) except for the Atlantic T/C engine fitted before it left UK. Body was white. He recalls he sold the car to Mike Gill for £500 (albeit with a blown engine).

From Howard Savoury (present at the Guyana races November 72 and filmed them) by phone 7 December 2006:
HS believes it was a BT29 (and also recalls full F2 spec, except for engine - which he believes was an overbored T/C). Car believed in Antigua at Harney Motors prior to being flown to Guyana for Nov72 races. Checks being made with Harney. Stills from Guyana cine film to be forwarded to me for posting.

The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club web site, recently back on line, now describes this car (at Guyana's South Dakota circuit in November 72) in its "Club History" as a BT38 with 1600FVA!

(clearly wrong if all BT38s were monocoques?)

Tony Brise wins a libre at Brands 28 Nov 1971 in the 'works' F3 BT35, with support from Ecclestone. That was news to me. So which was the 'works' BT35?

This is BT35-2 returned to the works by Vandervell and used by Brise in late season. I have somewhere the exact press reference to this effect, but can't lay my hand on it.

Malcolm Dungworth just phoned so I can fill in a bit on this car. John Cussins bought the BT35X from Griffiths with the idea of converting it to 4WD. When he was convinced that wasn't a good idea, he let Malcolm, who had just sold the Harris with the intention of retiring, run it for free. Malcolm recalls running it in 1974, 75, 76 and 1977 before he sold it to Terry Smith. By this time it had been thoroughly Pilbeam-ised.

Historic Hillclimb At Harewood In June

Owners of BT35's (and other models) may like to know that Harewood Speed Hillclimb are holding an Historic meeting for cars up to and including 1972.

The event is on Saturday 2nd June 2007.

I know of a BT35, a BT30 and a BT18 which will be entered.

Details and entry regs will be available (soon) on

The Fuller/Gill (believed) BT35. Bryan Mackintosh in Guyana kindly posted this photo without reproduction restriction. The caption is incorrect as we know for sure it was November 72 not 73. Not sure if this is any help to experts for I/D. The tyres look quite large to me and might support that it was in F2 spec. except for the Twink engine (which seems to be on carbs in the photo).

I would say it was a BT28, narrow roll hoop versus BT35 full width. Now that makes it interesting. When did Bizzy get the ex Schenken one?

Notes I took on BT28 (supposed -23) were: to Andrew Cheeks in Trinidad from Bob Howlings in 72. Raced Guyana November 72 by Cheeks. Sold to Bizzy Williams, Barbados (no exact date that I've seen but would have been either after the Barbados race later in November 72 or the March 73 Barbados race? (by which time Mike Gill had the Jimmy Fuller car and had re-engined it).
One other bit I picked up from Jimmy Fuller was that he went to the Brabham site at New Haw to buy it earlier in 72. He wasn't sure of the location at first but when I described the road crossing the canal he recalled it sufficiently to convince me it was there (I lived fairly near it during the later Ralt period). We didn't actually establish whom he dealt with but it might have been Ron Tauranac? (would that fit the timescale?).

One other point that I thought of no significance at the time. JF was talking about running his F3 BT38 in UK in 73 from a unit behind Frank Williams' place (Cippenham Road?) in Slough "next to Lella Lombardi's car". He then asked me who was "that other woman" (by implication, connected to Brabham as a driver). All I could suggest was Giovana Amati. Looking at the BT36 thread, I now see Hannelore Werner mentioned alongside Graham Hill in a photo. I guess she's the one he was thinking of? and he must have met her, possibly at the Brabham base. Which gets us nowhere because, although he belived Graham Hill had driven his car, it's not a BT36 and you seem to have the history of those ex-works car anyway...

Does anyone have any information on BT35-19?
There is a possibility that this car was the one used by Tom Belso in the latter half of the 1971 Atlantic season, rather than the BT28 I had always supposed [or at least the rebuilt BT28 might have carried this plate]

Can I fill in a bit more detail on this car ? after Terry Smith took the Repco engine out to use in his March the chassis passed to Mike Remnant in Cornwall, I bought the rolling chassis in about 1981 ran it on the hills and sprints in the southwest with a Lotus Ford Twincam for a while eventually fitting a Rover V8 Mark Haynes and I had a lot of fun with the car, eventually selling the rolloing chassis to Ted Walker? in about 1985 the Rover V8/Hewland FGA subsequently found a home in the Chevron B42 which replaced the Brabham, I was very saddened to hear the car had been "restored" to F2 trim which of course it never was, the unique top engine bay chassis rails were a dead give away that this was no ordinary BT35 but an X, so the real BT35X now no longer exists, with such a rare car I find this heartbreaking verging on vandalism, if only this website had been around then !! In the 90s to Sean Mooney and when the BDA was fitted the chassis was left completely as was, the only change was a different rear gearbox crossmember to fit an FT200. Should anyone find a 5 litre Repco rest assured it will slip straight back in.

Excellent news that 35X-2 will still take a Repco, rumour has it that the original engine went to Australia, but not confirmed, seem to remember Ray Rowan possibly having something to do with it, but not sure.
Just to clear a point up Allen, my very good friend Mike Remnant bought the car from Smithy but did not use it, I believe he wanted the dampers from it for his BT30 ,we did the deal during a quite heavy Weston sprint/Gurston hillclimb weekend as I remember it (in those days we regularly raced a hangover to the top of the hill just beating it by a second or so) !!
I must dig out Mike`s BT30 chassis No for the 30 thread, Regards Roger.
