If it's a racing movie, it's probably going to be pretty lousy!! Tradition!

Well, I was surprised by how good Rush was...
Another thing that might fit in this thread: HTP are going to run a pair of Mercedeses in DTM next year, might or might not be gone from BES. |

Perhaps that's where Max Buhk and Gotz are headed to? I'm not sure if Schneider has any interest in going back.

But this director is definitely a step or few down from Michael Mann. And so is Tom Cruise (can't avoid Days of Thunder comparisons) considering that Brad Pitt and Josh Brolin were associated already in 2009. Last edited by deggis; 24 Oct 2013 at 18:38. |

Well I loved Rush and will even admit to liking "Le Mans" not sure how they will show the epic battle between the evil italians and the courageous american under dogs, well lets hope they have a more even handed approach. I have never been a fan of ferrari but in that battle there was never bad guy, but we all end up choosing sides and i hope like Rush we get a film we can all like.

I haven't seen Rush. Heard it's pretty well done.
But seriously there is a lot of really bad racing movies: Grand Prix Winning Days of Thunder Spinout About a million really bad lower-budget ones from the 50's, 60's and 70's and, of course, the infamous Driven There's a very few good ones Le Mans (of course!) Disney-Pixar's Cars (Cars 2 is okay, as well) To Please a Lady (Old Clark Gable movie) There's some other ones that aren't too bad: Speed Racer The Love Bug (first Herbie movie) The Green Helmet (Low budget, but pretty good) The Big Wheel (Old Mickey Rooneymovie) |

Talladega Nights is awful.
Here's one not yet mentioned and starring a surprising name and from a pretty well known director, altough it doesn't really have much racing scenes: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075774/ |

Have to stick up for Talladega Nights here. Absolute genius. Albeit the racing scenes are the worst part - same as Rush.

Same here love the book read it every year before Le Mans.not really convinced this will turn into a good movie yet, and Tom cruise doesn't really add to that feeling.
Tom cruise as Carroll Shelby is as lame as Ben Aflec as batman. |

It's tough because Cruise can get the movie a huge amount of visibility - and ultimately get it funded. But it could be more credible in someone else's hands maybe.

The fact that Tom Cruise was chosen pretty much indicates that this will be a "popular" movie, with lots of manufactured interpersonal drama to give the actors a chance to act---Not an historically accurate racing movie designed to please race fans.
So long as we all expect a lot of cheesy invented plot twists, historical inaccuracies, and way too little footage of cars (and probably way overblown with CGI) then we might find some passing entertainment in this film. Basically, "Rush" but a lot less tasteful and far less carefully created. Re: Cruise as Shelby: There is a reason this project was held until the big Texan died ... he was pretty pugnacious and pretty litigious. |

Let's not forget that the "downshift to overtake" will likely feature in this movie as well

Blimey mates give it a chance, i hope it gets made and will reserve judgement until i one know more about it and two actually see clips or the whole film. On the small amounts of information available some people do react negatively.

But it has to be good Simon. You can't mess with a film of a book which is that good.
