Bit surprised about that, that the guy holding the pump is not waring f/proofs.
I take it these pumps will be used for the 6hour [hopefully] |

This is pretty silly isn't it?
Driver has to make the fuel stop, get out and open his own fuel cap - no team to help him, as they're at the other end of the circuit! As noted, the 'official' holding the refueller isn't wearing fire-retardant clothing, and neither is anyone else around the area, bar the driver. The pumps are a little close to the tarmac aren't they? What happens if someone overshoots their marks slightly and cannons into one of the pumps? What if multiple cars want to refuel at the same time? This looks like another short-sighted approach by Spa. |

When I drove home on the Friday afternoon (of that 25 hour Beetle race) the cars were queing up from the entry of the new road all the way up to the pumps.
Traffic jam up the M25. Fireproof suits? Who needs them? Another shameful flaw on Spa's behalf. If, and I state if they are going to use that pit for the proper 24 hours, they probably will use the normal refuelling rigs and personal. What annoys me most is the entry onto the new road. |

Even the F1 drivers want a return to grass/gravel.

I commented on this watching the race, as it was still grass for the 24 Hours, what, 6 weeks ago?

I think it was done a week before F1 and there are some rumours going about it will be reverted back to grass and gravel.
I think it should be reverted back like it used to be in the old days. At least drivers had respect for a racetrack. |

They have laid in effect,a second 'lane' to the outside of the corner [the fresh tarmac]. Just right for those 'Six Hour hero's',they won't need to learn the corner now!

Just seen the new layout on Brit GTs...
I'm sad to anounce the death of Spa Francorchamps as one of the most challenging circuits in the world. With the removal of the gravel at Rivage, the only remaining challenge/gravel is at Stavalot. The standard line through Eau Rouge is now four-wheels off. I first met Spa in the late 90s - you had to pootle along a dirt road to get to the paddock because the main access road was the circuit. It took me half-a-day to take it flat. Within a few years, Eau Rouge was tarmaced (but at least penalties were given to those who went off) - but I could take it flat on the first lap of testing. The terrifying Bus Stop exit was eased, then completely *******ised into various seas of tarmac. Then Pouhon (actually, the most challenging corner on the circuit) - my first podium at Spa came off the back of cars getting stuck in the gravel trap there. Runoff at Blanchimont was the one corner I could agree with. But then extented tarmac at La Source, Pif-Paf, and Les Combes. It could easily be recreated in a parking lot in the US or Asia. No flowers. |

As a very good Belgian friend and well known racer said,"It will soon be very difficult to tell the track from the paddock if they lay any more tarmac".
A great shame for what was once a 'Proper Circuit'. |

Lovely photos Tatounet,it'll be interesting to see how the apparently unrestricted F1 lap time differ from last year.[By 'unrestricted,I mean there never seems to be a penalty for going 'four off']
