i have just read sept 79 AS and Humberstone has done a lydden libre race in march 713
he was already racing Imps in 78 79 first car was steel shell Fg panels then he had 1300 bda spaceframe stilletto circa 80-81 then the next car was the Suzu SC100 and that would have been 83 ish he did his car first with mk9 gearbox and teh bike gearbox so he had 30 odd gears! John Schnieder built his version for 84/5 ish with the bike gearbox only The Bowlby car was later more like 87/88 ish |

I didn't keep any programmes, stupid now but you didn't think you would want them again, at the time you were getting one every week-end.

Body on and body off photos
Don't know if anybody is interested but here are 2 photos of the escort one without the body and cage on. The chassis photo is as it was raced by Derrick with the Hewland box, I cut this bit off even though Derick said "it was the best bit" as I already had the ex DFV Capri Jack Knight box and didn't want the extra complications.

I have now established that the former Jim Evans Skoda Special Saloon was returned to Chevron shape for the Thundersports race at Brands Hatch on 22 July 1984.
Entrant was Fred Cowell Racing and drivers were Barrie 'Whizzo' Williams and John Salisbury. I think Salisbury was owner. Entry lists say he was from Oxton, near Birkenhead. Anyone know how I might contact Salisbury or Cowell? |

Hi- I am new to this thread
The Tony Sugden Esprit was built by Jim Evans with a new tub and March 762 suspension (from Jim's Ex Sayers 762 Hart). It was firstly fitted with a turbo FVC or BDA - can't remember but I could check. First event was Donington German Group5 race - qualified 4th but DNF. Ludvig won in the Zakspeed Capri. Tony then took over the car and eventually it became his Skoda. The 74S DFV (advertised as a project in AS )became Jimmy Robertson's Skoda with the GAA 3.4 ( Robertson had previously owned Jim's Escort Turbo |

Just found some pics from lydden. Not sure of date but meeting /race was the Barry Reece memorial, lots of special saloons competing . As i remember good race long tussle for lead betweein Rob Mason driving the Laser transport stiletto of Ernie Wood and Tony Davies in his "old nail" Firenza. Can't remember who won though, there was an SC100 in the race, I'm pretty certain its John Schneiders car. (Pic attache) Not very good but may give an idea as to who now owns it.

if car was green its Johns car i think race meeting was 82 or 83
Barry Reece had huge accident in his very smart Maguire stilletto at Coombes Camp corner sustained serious head injuries as he didnt have crutch strap and slide down off top of my head he lived for another 12-18 months before surcumbing to his injuries |

1973
In 1971 it was proposed that there should be no hybrids in club saloon racing and gearboxes should remain in the production location. The former idea was dropped in late 1971 but the latter was kept for 1973. Hence the Norman Abbott/Tate of Leeds (Chris Meek) car was to be rebuilt with the Hewland FT200 being adapted to drive straight from the engine via a twin-plate clutch, leaving the diff at the rear (and the FVA to be replaced by a Felday F2 BDA, presumably 1973 cc) (MN 15-2-73)

Des Donnelly – Viva 2.3 – “bore only a nominal resemblance to the marque …. It was said it had set him back five grand” (MN 3-5-73) – LV240 engine
I think you may be mixing two cars here - By the middle of 1973 Des had a new HC bodied Viva - using a brand new shell prepared in Ireland and then shipped to Bill Blydenstein - who built the car Gabriel Konig has today - fitted with the LV240 Lotus 904 engine TJ injection and dry sumped - one of the sister cars (ie same specification) as the famous Gerry Marshall Firenza (old Nail) The Viva HC prior to this was using a single cam and from the MN 3-5-73 date must be his old car |

some one has been a busy boy of xmas!
Tony wibley i think was from plymouth west country area somewhere i do have foto of his car circa 76 at Brands i see some cross over of cars drivers in your list but it would be great to see photos to confirm duplicate cars ie Escort Martin V8 has to be same car not many V8 martin motors built! Moto Kitano and Hasemi would have been in UK for the International races as in 72 3 4 they where racing Lola T290 B19 sports cars in japan and possibly F2 as well |
