Licence to print money now F1 is, you can understand the pressures on certain venues to do better, as right now if you are not making millions from a race you are not doing your job very well, other than the Arab races of course where one man and his dog are usually present.

Sadly money talks in F1 and it's not about the venue or the circuit or the crowds, but which country has the deepest pockets. Sad really

It is not sad, it is a reflection of modern sport, it is about bidding nothing more. It has been many years since major sporting events went to the places that were the best venues or that deserved them, Olympics, World Cup are now a bidding war.
The people who own the sports managed to get tv companies and races hosts in a fit of desperation about it, so I dont blame them. I blame fans in some ways for continuing to pay staggering amounts for some races and for paying to watch the stuff on SKY or wherever/. The speed at which the entire developed world has rolled over and accepted that ALL sport worth watching has to be paid for when you are bombarded by advertising, at venues, on drivers in ad breaks blows my mind. It is a very sad reflection of how FOMO rules, how easily manipulated punters are about just about anything and about how much money is the ONLY thing that matters to the FIA, Liberty, FOM and several others. The fact there is no race in Germany or France is staggering when there are two manufacturers in the sport based in those two places, but again I say bravo to Hockenheim and Nurburgring, unlike just about every place in the world they have said enough is enough to Liberty, we cannot make money from that and/or Germans simply will not pay those prices and neither will we, I wish a few more countries had the balls to do the same. |
