Hope the cars get picked up by someone else to be raced. Shame to see a strong privateer LMP1 effort disappear. But one can understand their unhappiness with the balance between the privateers and Toyota.

Congrats to ACO, they killed LMP1 by searching Toyota's favour......

They could've saved it a long time ago by allowing P1 back into ELMS.

It would be good if someone picked up the cars. It’s a shame to see them go, but they gave it a good effort. Managed to get Button driving one was a good move, but it wasn’t enough

It'd be *literally* pointless to lease the chassis now that they won't be allowed to score any points in the championship (not full season entry after withdrawal + likely no LM entry), as well as the ACO lords not allowing them into ELMS or even ASLMS

SMP has been screwed to the ground by banning them from LMP2, then forcing into WEC against OEM with zero chance + soon ending chassis homologation, and next a BoP category that's obviously going to favor manufacturers and not private constructors. Hell they can't even build LMP3 if they wanted lol

Unlikely, also because surely would be difficult to get 2 full entries by now.... but anyway private lmp1 is a quite expensive hobby, out of the reach for most of lmp2 teams. Guess lmp1 program ended because russian bank axed the budget.

Who was the team who ran both BR1? during their lmp2 years it was af corse if am I not wrong.

ART Grand Prix ran the cars, but the programme itself was very much owned by SMP itself.

They rarely enter the SMP Racing cars themselves but use an established team to run them, even different teams at the same time.
AF Corse in Blancpain and in LMS and Renault World Series previously, ART in WEC (LMP), Baporo in GT Open etc ... I'm sure I've forgotten quite a few.

Guess you do not understand...Rotenburg IS the bank, SMP. So certainly not a question of funding.

Perhaps he finally got tired of the French still believing their own importance in the world.

I don't understand why the EOT was the problem when it was clearly getting better and more towards their favor. They were a second off Toyota at Le Mans and faster than the Porsche 919 was. What would close the gap imo, would be specifically designed front tires maybe rears as well, lower weight (approaching 800kg) and equalized stint lengths to Toyota. There's no reason they couldn't win races that way. Especially with the new success ballast (if that's a thing), Toyota will probably be at 950kg by the end of the season. The cars were just starting to get to that point where they were really close to the pace of Toyota and there's only a couple things to do to finalize that bridge.

Success ballast was for non-LM races only, as was the freedom of stint lengths per insistence of Toyota.

The ACO just needs to put it's foot down and say equal stint lengths for Le Mans. Success ballast probably wouldn't really be needed honestly. With the pace these guys showed and the improvements they should make year over year, equal stint lengths and a weight drop would suffice imo.

Maybe maybe not but it hardly matters now that there is only one final race left, before it turns into GTE BoP class for 2021-24

Close in pace maybe - at Le Mans, but still 6 laps behind after a problem-free run for #11.
I think they realized they will never be able to close that gap.
If they had spent 20 minutes in the garage, then you know there's margin for improvement but I don't think there is any now.

I suspect their biggest dissatisfaction doesn't actually come from the performance gap to Toyota, or even the way ACO has implemented the rules, but that the factory cars have been absolutely bullet proof (thanks to not having to push at all)

Btw I just remembered that the team could still run their now near-ancient LMP2 BRs in the ASLMS P2-AM next winter even stick Judd or AER or whatever into it... Why not? In the world of spec and bop, ASLMS still has room for bit of the old world... Too bad not for LMP1 but...

They pit more often and took longer to pit. That could be solved by the rule makers easily. You slow down Toyota's refueling and/or speed up the refueling of the private teams also you equalize the stint lengths of the cars as in don't give Toyota the 1-lap advantage because of being a hybrid. I don't think many at all expected them to do 3:18's let alone 3:16's. The former was a race lap. The speed is there it just needs to be consistent and easier to achieve.

My earlier post I said they need to have the correct type of tires on them to keep up. Toyota should be at 880, 890kg and these guys should be 810kg at the heaviest and allowed to do 11 lap stints at Le Mans.

He does appear to be a driver who would be in demand after his LM showing. Makes me wonder if he brings any money and could help Rebellion secure 2 full time cars.

OK, some wild speculation, because why not. Vandoorne drives for HWA Racelab in Formula E, which is Mercedes in disguise. Daimler owns a chunk of Aston Martin, so Stoffel ends up in the hypercar next season.

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST. And possibly last...

It may not be for the reasons you mention, but its not beyond the realm of possibility. Im curious how AM make their picks when the time comes for their hypercar team.

They have a strong stable of GT drivers, but they are also retaining their GT programme.

Paul di Resta interviewed today for that publication we dont like to name saying he's hoping for a hypercar seat.

di Resta, Vandoorne, Lynn, Vergne, etc etc, a mix of young potential and established P2 talent maybe?
