This is an odd feeling:
I actually think I've come to the point of this build to remove the engine etc, get the paint brush out and start a final detail and build. The silencers are in and mounted to the box, the rear body frame is all done, and I can't think of anything else to make from a tube and weld! This is the very best bit, fitting up for the last time, fresh paint and fresh fasteners. It would be nice to nickel plate some of the parts to break-up some of the blackness of the parts rather than glamour chrome. The brake custom mounts are being machined for £55 each which I thought good value. Still a skip load of money to spend.... |

I KNOW you jest!
Loton Park I think..about 1995? I did not know that the Claymore Lola was Fideo's! That is a long time ago, and I remember it well. I thought the fideo car was a T 492? I'm told that enclosed wheels are not allowed on the hills due to marshal access in the event of an off. ps Have they sold the Pilbeam? Graham. |

Seems to me to be the ugliest of all body styles, a real inverted bath tub.
Interestingly, the Fidoe Pilbeam (great car) has a similar front wing between the front wings. |

1) No I am not kidding! You need a big wing to help get all that power down!!! 2) Yes Loton Park in the Mid 90s 3) The car is a Lola T492 - the all-enveloping bodywork was designed by Keith Messer and it ran in F1300 on the circuits prior to paul Turner & Ian Fidoe buying the car as a roller. 4) Can't see how they can ban enclosed bodywork when it is a period design and is the feature of so many of the Sports 2000 cars. 5) Doubt they have sold the Pilbeam considering how much they are asking! |

Aaargh ! Think ' aerodynamic balance ' , not absolute downforce .
Now if only moveable aerodynamic devices were permitted on the hills - even if only below the wheel centres .... |

Actually , if moveable aerodynamic devices above the wheel centres are banned , doesn't that raise questions about the legality of the cooling fan on a Porker ? And if it doesn't , if I were graham I'd put in a furking great engine cooling fan that sucked air over the cylinders rather than blew it over them , and pulled the cooling air in from the underside of the car ....

Didn't a yanky guy Chapparell (spelling) do that once!?
Clive: in hillclimbing, Sports Libre is taken literally, no rules, just size of the engine to determine where you race. That is why hillclimbing is such a great sport, minimum rules.(ish) Any of those mid 70's/80's WW saloons could race then and now. |

Seeing as several road cars now have "moveable aerodynamic devises" (i.e. rear wings) then how can this rule be enforced? |

Considering how popular S2000 was from 77-83 ish, it surprised me how few went into Climbing/Sprinting, anyone know why, Steve?? I can only think of the Priaulx Tiga, the Ernie Farncombe, older Tiga, and the Fidoe Lola. |

Sports Libre has always been a bit sparse over recent years, esp over 2 litre.
The Fidoe Pilbeam has been dominant for years and with only 3 drivers and 2 cars most times in the class. I remember Cristian Mineef's SPA (?)(spelt wrong I know) was quick, and there was the Bonner V6 white car that was awsom when it ran (now for sale). The Radicals are becoming a common sight now in the classes, and most of the Pinto/Twin Cam Sports 2000 esc cars are eligable for Historic class. |

The Fidoes have been running in the 2 litre class ever since the Hart let go! I understand that the ex-Barrie Lines MP43 is having a German V8 stuffed in the back and should be out next year for a limited airing in Scottish events. The Mineef car is the SPA and it can be seen regularly at Gurston Down in the hands of Chris Cannell - pity he doesn't travel further afield! The other superb bit of Sports Libre kit is the Mannic - another car rarely seen 'Up North'. The March-Bonner is as you say for sale but the asking price is highly inflated compared to what else is on the market. |

Chaparral 2J - Can-Am car built by Jim Hall for the 1970 series , which used an auxiliary motor to extract air from below the engine bay to create negative lift .
Brabham BT46B ( get the type numbers right for heaven's sake , Drifters old boy ; after all , you're the man who became a millionaire through his encyclopaedic knowledge of historic racing cars ) - F1 car designed and produced in 1978 by Gordon Murray . Widely considered by F1 cognoscenti to be a genius , it took Murray only eight years to steal Jim Hall's idea . Sucker - Anyone who believed that the TWR Group A Rovers complied with the regulations . |

Does the BRDC really have no mechanism whatsoever for expelling Members who by their very actions have brought the Club into disrepute ? |
