Sean, Mr Zini

Do you know Steve Ore? He called Nick Rountree yesterday, after a Lancer Turbo. He mentioned Joe and Jeff and Riverside. Thought he may mean something to you old gits and the Super saloons.

The name means something to me. Not sure if I spoke to him back when I was Lancer Turbo secretary. Did he have the orange tango car?

If I'd got your Blazer, I'd go round tomorrow and ask the old sod. Sean will remember. Funny that, Whizzo drove my old Lancer Turbo years ago and that broke down. Steve Ore was telling my mate tales of disposable engines and turbos.

Thinking about this, Lancer Pilots of (dis)Repute....

From the Riverside Racing "Stable" regulars
Joe Macari,
Jeff Robinson,
Dave Stimpson,
Linda Stimpson,
Simon Orr (white one - ran with "Bulldog" on it)
Lionel Wiffen,
Terry Kaby,

Others:
Alan Zini,
Martin Tyman,

There were some one-off drives, but I'd have to dig through old results if I can find them!

I remember Jeff selling two cars to a couple of newbies in '94 or '95 they were repainted/graphic'd up with black & blue. The guys who had them had a special double deck trailer and pulled it with a sodding great motorhome. Theys didn't stay long....

Any advance on that lot?

I know one of the black LT's went to Rob Plummer as I bought the remains about 9 years ago. Now you mention that Simons was white with a bulldog, I think that went to Scott Marshall. Alan Zini may be able to shed some light on these.

Simon Ore had a brother, not sure if his name was steve. Steve could even be one of the brothers sons!!
We started to build a car for Simon, I can remember taking the shell for acid dipping. Simon had some sponsership from animal as far as I can remember.

Al is right about the riverside crew, Simon white used to drive a very nice white lancer, we built it quite late and it was a good shell. Jeffs was getting a bit long in the tooth.
Terry just used the lancer to get some track experience (and the relevent licence i think). Lionel had an ex datapost escort turbo that he ran in touring cars for a while, him and jeff ran it in thundersaloons at mallory for a round. Jeff ended up sticking it in the wall at the hairpin. Lionel then rented a lancer for a season or two.
Dave started in a Cherry turbo but soon defected to the dark side of the lancers.

I've got that and a picture of a white LT with a red front and chequered in between on big Revolutions. I know the car went to Alistair Lightfoot and the remains are now with another owner. Who's was it when it was a racer Sean?

When it was ours it was all white. Simon white drove it and he did ok in it. It had a real nice seat and steering wheel in it, I always used to drive it to and from the circuits when i could because it was the most comfortable.!!

As we're on the subject of Lancer's thought I'd dig out some pics.....

Early one this, me and I think Lynda Stimpson Brands 1987

Think this is the one mentioned a couple of posts up....

Is that tyre smoke or a reliability issue

I remember those 2 Rob, I also thought at the time they seemed to have all the kit, here's one of them visiting Quarry oops.....

I've had many good races with various LT's over the years....

Though not always, after I led from the start at Mallory without being challenged, into the hairpin on the last lap and bang, Simon Orr got fined and a licence endorsement but amazingly was allowed to keep the win !!!

These 2 are my favorite pics though

That should be enough to be going on with.
Simon

Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the remains of RFL via Rob Plummer and I know the green machine is still about with Evo power now. The (Blaupunkt) Orr car is now in the hands of a top Mitsi tuner waiting for an Evo lump and the blue and white car is or was for sale and owned by Scott Marshall a few years ago. Over to Sean Hale and Alan Zini now.

Great there Sarnie, I remember your capri, being a massive capri fan back then I always lusted after a real quick one. VBW was indeed Lynda and Jeffs was RFL. Simon was a bit of a loony on the road so the mallory hairpin incident doesn't supprise me. Mallory was a bit of a bogy track for us, was always seemed to be doing alnighters just to get there and usually something went wrong. I remember Jeff borrowing Joes car for a round there (without telling him) and then putting it in the tyres at the lake esses only for it to be rear ended by a big rover SD1.

I will see if I can find Jeffs email and point him too this thread, its about time he cralled out from under that stone he has been hiding under for the last 10 years!!!!

I ran out of brakes at the hairpin at Mallory in !987 in the Super Road Saloons and hit the back of Jeff in my 3.9 Vitesse. He then spent the next few laps weaving down the straight to stop me passing. Red mist fully down I proceeded to ram him several times and rip my front bumper half off and then ripped my rear bumper off muscling by at the Hairpin. Big *******ing off the Clerk Mr Truman that day!!

Ahhh, so you had your trousers folded neatly over your arm then!

And remember - Formula Ford! Don't do it today!

Reading this, I want a Lancer again! I missed out on one for £150 a few years back, and I really kick myself for that.

Wonder if I could shoehorn a LS1 in there.....

Anyone (Alan Z?) got a picture of Alan's Samuri paint and graphics scheme. This was way before the current digital printers producing similar graphics easily and was all done in different coloured cut vinyl, a true work of art and labour of love. I remember the humourless scutineer making Alan remove the upper half from the rear door window stating it would impede his view! How on earth that was a problem on a 4 door car on the rear door I fail to see, they want to see the view from the cockpit of my 2 door coupe cars now thats impeded but despite me having a word with him he was adamant it had to come off! Actually this car ran like that in Falken ModProds so maybe wrong thread but they were very similar and a lot of driver cross overs.

Actually I can just make it out in Sarnies photo but its not very clear, are you sure thats not a ModProds shot Simon as there are holes and things cut in bonnet which wouldnt have been legal in Road Saloons would it?

I think that only the 1.6 Lancer was homologated for Group 1, not the 2.0 Turbo?

Yes Al, both pics with Alan Zini's car in are ModProds, just thought as the discussion was all about LT's I'd put them all on here. I may have a better pic of the graphics, will post it up Sunday if nobody else has.

The graphics still survive Al. I have pictures at home on my pc, not on this laptop.

Whizzo used to race the 1.6. LT's a rare now and fetch good money in good condition. I've had a few, they rot if you let them.
