I understand that advertising is necessary to pay the cost of running a website and that the site operators have very little control over what Google Ads puts into the advertising slot.
Buuut: I have just had the most shocking kind of literature offered to me on this site. A German book was promoted that uses Nazi terminology originally directed at jews to demand and justify the same treatment for environmentalists. This is beyond revolting I have never seen anything as disgusting as this RudE |

Rudernst, As a subscriber I don't see adverts.
I've reported your post and requested the owners to take a look. Can you pm me with the details of the book and it's advertisement please? As you say, the owners don't determine what adverts are shown, that is down to google analytics as I understand things. |

We use two sources for providing advertising, and both are well respected and have a good reputation. As you said, we have little control over what gets shown and we rely on our advert providers to do appropriate moderation of the adverts they accept and show. If this happens again then please take a screenshot if possible and e-mail it to webmaster@ten-tenths.com and I'd also make use of the "Report Ad" function if it's a Google advert (to do this click on the triangle at the top right of the specific advert, see below) |

I might just as well answer it myself, as the question is inevitable..... Yes, the pick of the advertising that I see is driven by Google Analytics, and yes what I see in advertising is driven by what I google for and what I order on Amazon. I just happens that I have taken to literary science and am working on a book about the commercial background of Thomas Mann Nobel prize winning book "Buddenbrooks". Buddenbrooks is about a 19th century family of north German grain traders, and as I stem from a north Germany family of sugar traders, I happen to have say a thing or two about commodities trading in the 19th century. As wars back then influenced grain prices and grain trading a lot, I tend to read a lot historical, military and political analysis. I have published quite a lot recently in literary magazines and yearbooks, the biggy this year is an item on "Political discourse in the Man Family about Bismarck" Much cheaper as a hobby than motorracing and do get the occasional cheque. So I read a lot of stuff, but not THAT kind of stuff Having just turned 58, I also get see a lot of ads on chair lifts, that I have learned to chuckle about and incontinence stuff that I bear with magnimity RudE |

So far I've managed to avoid stair lifts and incontinence pants but at 54 it's only a matter of time! |

It's amazing how quickly advertisers latch-on to what you have shown interest in. I'm 14 years older than you but I haven't received any stairlift or incontinence pants ads yet! Last edited by John Elwin; 15 Jan 2021 at 13:38. Reason: Confused two posts. Must be my age... |

There was a famous occasion when a British MP stood up to demand that advertising of pornographic sites on some page or other should be banned as it was a family page. The howls of derision as he was informed that his adverts were based on his browsing history must have been audible nationwide!

Some areas may get a cold weather payment as well. I'll bet that costs as much to administer as it pays out. The industry of government administration knows how to keep the funds flowing. |

When prompted I always say no to adverts based on my interests.
Much more exciting to see random stuff and discover entire global movements about social matters or products that one never knew existed. However I am beginning to think that the refusal of repetitive content has a short lived effect - probably just long enough to make us think they the questioner actually cares about what we call out privacy. Likewise the very sensible EU idea of allowing people to make choices about tracking cookies. The only downside is that one is not constantly asked about one's preferences every time a site is opened. And some of them, especially the US media company sites, have incredibly lengthy and obscure processes in place if you wish to check the settings. Eventually people will give up and simply "agree" to all of them. So a good idea but ultimately a pointless exercise with added costs and admin? |

There's a division of Swindon Racing Engines that has developed an Electric Classic Mini as part of its strategy to offer "kit" ready to go conversions for either restorations or regular manufacturer car developments. I can see a decent niche market opportunity there for a decade or two. |
