Excellent news - hope this Schnitzer-run car actually sees the light of day (unlike the Huisman/Ferrier effort that was mooted for 2004)

Alfa Fan has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Schnitzer Motorsport's involvement gives me confidence in this entry.

Why wouldn't a BMW be competitive in that the BTCC? Or do you mean they'll still be outclassed by the BTC spec cars? The car is a Schrnitzer built one and not some privateer built one? Geoff Steele used to run a BMW back in the early 90s too? But buying a newly built Schnitzer BMW is quite a big investment?

Apologies - it was Hanson (not Huisman) and Schnitzer Sportscars was just the name of the group sponsoring the mooted Carly Motors 2004 entry!

Exactly, I mean this. If an official team like SEAT UK had a difficult season, likely there will be bigger problems for a private team. H-pattern gearbox won´t help either.

It was my understanding that the BMW's had now been converted to sequential?

No, that would mean 1.170 kg (RWD+sequential gearbox) in WTCC. BTW, isn´t it seemed in BTCC?

According to Ultimatecarpage.com it has a 5-speed sequential box.

From www.fiawtcc.com:
"Transmission:rear-wheel-drive; gearbox: BMW H-pattern, 5-speed with straight cut gears and dog engagement; clutch: carbon single disc; differential: mechanical limited-slip differential".

Obviously Schnitzer cars use this kind of gearbox too.

The way I read it Bell has brought the car from Schnitzer, they aren't actually running the car or having any further involvement after that.

Interesting stuff, it will be interesting to see how they get on, remember that the Edenbridge BMW didn't set the world on fire 2 season's ago.

I've no knowledge of the driver in question - so can't comment on his competiveness. But if he's a good driver, then there's no reason to think that BMW shouldn't be up the front. Afterall there is an equivalency formula, the Beemers weren't exactly slow in the WTCC in 2005.

Long WTCC tracks are rather suitable for a H-pattern gearbox than small british ones. I don´t know how fast Bell is anyway, but a BMW doesn´t seem the best car for BTCC.

blimey looks like i guessed right, bell has won the bmw championship before so obviously he is a pretty good driver, although the btcc is another level

pretty sure that geoff steel racing last competed in the btcc in 94, not 93 as the crash.net story states

Martyn is a very good driver and has a very good team behind him, the Edenbridge cars were uncompetitive due to the weight difference I believe, the WTCC cars are to the newer super regs and this should help tremendously and make them alot more competitive than last time they competeted.

Good luck Belly and all your crew, we'll be shouting for you

Bell raced this car in last years Kumho BWM championship, and was champion the year before. He only came back to the Kumho series because of lack of funds elsewhere I heard??

Nice to see a BWM back in the BTCC too, that's whats really been missing!

By the way, if he has a similar colour scheme to that... I'm all for it!

Two new names on the grid,a dn seemignly the type of small private entries Gow has been coveting. Good news all round, especially if either of them can be competitive.

I don't know if anyone else noticed that the 2 MG's which Jason Hughes where meant to buying from Germany where in the For Sale secition of last week's Autosport. From what I understand it was a done deal, but the money for the deal has not been forth coming so the deal has now been cancelled and the cars offer for sale again.

Is that one of GA's production cars being converted to the current BTCC regs or WTCC regs?
